fun but annoying     On: 2008-12-21

as alot of other reviewers stated this game has very annoying checkpoints in single player mode (especially the elevator level). I would have been extremely upset paying $50 or $60 for this game but since I found it yesterday for $20 I feel a little better. I loved the Nintendo 64 game and thats the only reason I got this, in a way I should have passed it up.
Best Dino, Bug, Soldier Killing game EVER!     On: 2008-12-13

This has been my 3rd Mature game that I bought and it is totally AWESOME! The Graphics are AMAZING, the sound is cool and the gameplay is the BEST! SO many enemies and so many cool weapons. I cant beleive that there is really a bow and a knife which is very cool! The dinosaurs look so realistic, it is a wonder how they were able to make it. Turok is totally the best shooter and I would recommend it to anyone who is a big fan of shooters!
Billy's Revenge     On: 2008-10-20

Ever since I saw Jurassic Park, I had a newfound respect for Tyrannosaurus Rex. Forget dragons: a T-Rex is a terrifying killing machine, and Jurassic Park made it clear that you didnt just see one of these monsters coming, you actually felt its presence. Of course, my love for dinosaurs started well before that, back when I was in elementary school. Whats sad is that I wanted dinosaur curtains, dinosaur bedspreads, dinosaur anything -- and back then there WERE no dinosaur-themed stuff for kids. Now my one-year-old wears a new dinosaur-themed outfit practically every day.

Its probably no surprise that Im fond of Jurassic Fight Club, which matches two (or more) dinosaurs in tail-to-head combat. The speculation and history lessons are fun, but the actual computer graphic battles in all their bloody glory left me itching for something more. And that more is Turok.

Turok is a first-person shooter, but the thrill is in the use of the bow and the knife to silently take out your enemies. Dinosaur combat is less about shooting them and more about pressing the right combination of buttons to fend it off; the combination changes with each dinosaur attack, which keeps Turok fresh with sudden mini-games that are thrust suddenly upon you.

The other neat element is that dinosaurs are animals at heart. They run from explosions, sniff out prey, and can be lured into traps. My personal favorite: shooting a flare over a grenade, a dinosaur wanders over to sniff it and...BOOM! Instant meat shower! The dinosaurs are more forces of nature than enemies; there are plenty of opportunities to have shoot-outs with better-armed and armored opponents.

This is the first game to really do the T-Rex justice. Showdowns with this monster (which, Im pleased to report, happen frequently) always end in horrible carnage. The great voice acting and slick script only add to the paranoid atmosphere. Theres even a shout-out to Aliens, complete with flamethrowers and giant bugs.

Remember that scene in Predator, where the Native American, Billy, stays behind to take on the alien with jut a knife? His off-screen death was really lame. Turoks much better answer: Hell yeah, an Indian can take on a dinosaur...give him a knife, and he can stab a T-Rex to death with it!

General Mindless Dinosaur-Slaying Fun     On: 2008-10-14

Turok is sort of a space-marines-meets-Jurassic-Park story. In a futuristic world with high end weapons and armor, youre pitted against the raw muscle and razor-sharp teeth of meat-eating dinosaurs.

Really, the game is all about fun. It has nice graphics, but not nearly as stellar as other games out there. The scenery of black mountains and drifting clouds are pretty, but could be better. The character animations are all right, but sometimes clunky and clippy. The voices are all right, but sometimes get flat or cliched.

When it comes down to it, this is all about pitting yourself against dinosaurs with the best weapons you could imagine from various sci-fi shows. Its you against bit, sharp-toothed monsters of gigantic proportions. They are faster than you, stronger than you, there are lots of them out there. Can you hold your own against them?

The answer hopefully is yes. There are multiple levels of gameplay here, so you can start with the easier one if you havent played these games before, or just dive into the killer-hard level if you enjoy a challenge. Youll be sneaking around, taking shelter behind jungle plants, plotting out the best place to lay your ambush.

Yes, theres a plotline of sort, with crosses and double-crosses. You get your hands on various weapons. Ironically, we tended to stick just with the knife, for silent, deadly kills. The other favorite weapon was the bow with a variety of arrow types.

The game is a good length and whether you enjoy it or not probably depends on whether the idea of blasting away at dinosaurs for hours is a fun thing to do. We did enjoy playing our way through it, but it was not one of the games that we kept on the active shelf to revisit for months afterwards.

If youre not a dinosaur / monster-slaying fan, it might be best to rent this one for a weekend and see how it appeals to you. That way you could get the dinosaur mashing out of your system if its not your cup of tea - or get yourself completely hooked and decide to get one of your very own.
killing Dinosaurs its a lot of fun     On: 2008-09-26

Turok series is back and let me tell you this game is difficult, the only problem that i have with this game its the overall gameplay its very difficult to aim at the enemy, the graphics are decent and you have a lot a fun weapons.

If you want a cheap game to have some fun this is a really good game for you.
almost a classic.... almost     On: 2008-09-21

Lets get one thing straight, nobody plays Turok Dinosaur Hunter games for any real reason other than just up and slaying dinoaurs... and this gameabsolutely delivers in bloody glory. The game is tons of fun to play but theres a few game play snags here and there that kinda leave you pissed off at the game and developers for not ironing them out.... then you get rolling and the game becomes fun again. Absolutely a thumbs up and Id probably rate it an 88%
MUCH Better than Expected     On: 2008-09-18

This game is, quite simply, the best jungle shooter Ive ever played. I know I wont be popular for saying this... I enjoyed it more than Far Cry. In fact, I rank this excellent title up there with Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4.

REASONS I LOVED THIS GAME
1. Excellent Controls
2. Excellent Graphics
3. Best Use of a Bow Since Half Life 2
4. Liberal Use of Testosterone
5. Most Satisfying Knife Attack... Ever
Turok     On: 2008-09-08

I bought this game because i liked turok evolution so i figured well ill try the demo. So, i loved the demo and decided to go ahead and buy the game because it was like 30 dollars.
The graphics are amazing, Its a very intense game as i would describe it, Randomly a dinosour will jump out of no where and attack you as you get to shoot it in the face or stab it with a knife.
I would highly suggest it for someone looking for a good shooting game.
Turok Review     On: 2008-09-06

This game is by far the worst game I have ever played. It is very unbalanced and forces the player to repeat sections over and over unless done perfectly right. This game is not fun to play and not that great to look at either. If you are thinking about getting this game, pass on it. Rainbow 6, Call of Duty, Bioshock and Halo3 are all much better games
Amazing Game and Overall Experience!     On: 2008-08-18

Ill tell you what partners, this is the coolest game I have ever played. The characters, the dinos, the jungle planet, all of it just awsome. From the very beginning with "Aliens" type scenary to the Silent kills with that super sweet knife, this game has it all. Trust me folks you will love this game, just give it a shot, and forget about all other FPS games, for this game stands alone friends. I only hope they make a sequel, and some cool action figures to go with it.
Thanks for the fantastic game Propoganda, Turok lives again, and better then ever
not bad for $20     On: 2008-08-03

I remember playing Turok: Dinosaur Hunter & Turok 2:Seeds of Evil (best N64 game in opinion) this new Turok is a good game, but it just doesnt have that same punch as those older titles. Still very playable, but just different. Graphics are very good, the sound is awesome, the story is entertaining, I just think they should have called it something else and created a new series instead of labeling it Turok and trying to capitalize on a very original franchise that was far more unique than this particular product.
Average     On: 2008-07-24

Its a good game but by the end it gets old. I havent tried the multiplayer yet.
Could've been a contender     On: 2008-07-14

I have fond memories of the first Turok on the N64. The original was a very good ,well balanced game. I really enjoyed it. But this version leaves allot to be desired. The levels are painfully linear ,while thats not always a bad thing, its just that in the jungle I had hoped for a more open jungle environment. The knife is also insanely overpowered against the majority of the dinos ,usually one screen prompted LT pull and there dead in an instant. While this also inst such a bad thing, but unfortunatley what it advertently does is take away some of the suspense of being hunted by dinos. Like the first game I remember being tense and worried about the next dino encounter ,this game quickly lets you know with a knife in your hand ,you can kill them in one fell swash of the blade. I digress though the very last boss battle is a sight to behold, you actually encounter 3 large T-rexs throughout the game, but the VERY last one is HUGE and looks quite good. Unfortuneatley a few well placed shotgun blasts to the head and hes down fairly easy. The last 2 levels actually are better than the first 80% of the game. I wish the devs had started there and moved up. Youll also encounter human enemies which all can be fed to the dinos with some manipulation from you,but this is more gimmick than a deep, meaty part of the gameplay. While I have fond memories of the first games entire package , This version uses too many ,tired and overdone FPS staples. I expected much more from the Turok series and I had high hopes this game wouldve been much better. Instead you get a linear ,cookie cutter FPS ,with some dinos thrown in for the fun of it. I had imagined an open vast area ,with a bow on my back and a knife in my hand. Maybe some weird combination of Just Cause open-ness combined with the gameplay mechanics of the first game. But instead you get a linear, basic coridoor shooter disguised as an open jungle game. Its worth a playthrough for the LAST BOSS ,and the last 2 levels offer up some good FPS gameplay action. But I hold TUROK to high standards, if I was producer or developer I wouldnt have signed off this game as being done. Turok deserves more respect. But for $20 its a good deal IMO. PEACE
Compound bow, Hunting knife, Nuff said.     On: 2008-06-04

I have been a fan of Turok games since the beginning. But i have always been left feeling unsatisfied when i beat each game. But not this time. Beating this game was the best part. Although the game is short it has no room for complaints. Just the unique uses of the knife and bow make the game worth playing. In order to be challenged you will most likely have to play it on hard. I also tried beating the game by only using the knife/bow which is also really fun. But the Graphics are very good i would say a step up from gears of war. Overall after reading this review you will realize that if you enjoy slaughtering dinosaurs and uniquely fun gameplay you will enjoi this game fully. If you are dissapointed with the length of the game i would recommend playing it in all difficulties.
Better than Evolution...but that's not saying much.     On: 2008-05-21

I really wanted to like this game...I really did. As I was playing it I found all sorts of reasons the do so. The graphics were good, the gameplay was glitch-free as far as Ive seen, the story wasnt all that bad (granted it was weak, but how many Turok games have really had a solid story?), and the gameplay mechanics were interesting. However, there were just a few problems that kept me from really enjoying it.

The biggest problem I encountered was the fact that checkpoints could be almost 30 minutes apart (depending on how quickly you blaze through). One tends to get fed up with a game the second or third time you die and lose all the hard work you just put into sneaking up on guards and stealth killing your way across the battlefield. I guess Ive been spoiled by "save anywhere" games, but there is a reason for this...the "save anywhere" system is simply the best (if you disagree, thats fine...but I dont understand why, perhaps youd prefer it if games still had "extra lives" too?).

The other problems are mostly minor, so I dont feel I need to write a huge piece about them, but they and the save issue adds up to making an otherwise enjoyable game a chore.
almost there     On: 2008-05-15

game play started off alright, then just went back to the same scenarios not a game to play over and over , just play and trade.
Can you say disappointment?     On: 2008-04-25

O.K. so I dont know why I trusted the commercials for this. I almost always take ANY commercial with a grain of salt. But something about dinosaurs and Native American bloodlines on a next gen system sent my imagination into an overload of hope and potential. First and for most, the only thing in this game that looked remotely decent were the dinosaurs. And even then they didnt look as good as a next gen console should. The humans in the game were looking like something off my original Xbox. Pathetic. Then comes game play. Throughout the beginning of the game (which is all I played) I had no feeling of any freedom of where to go. I felt very much like I was in a heard. Then when you fight the dinosaurs, and they get close enough you have to hit a couple buttons to do some "fatality" type move. It happens WAY to often. and gets boring right quick. I ended up trading in the game cause I couldnt take the repetitive nature and the sub par graphics.
One of the best 360 games yet!     On: 2008-04-18

Amazing graphics, awesome missions, very realistic atmosphere, and hair raising dinos. Turok brings back that joy of dion hunting and gives you the jumps of your life T-Rex anyone. Mulitplayer is awesome and even thought they only have three missions they are developing a whole new set as we speak. Lots of fun with friends or solo, it doesent get any better than this!
No hype - just fun     On: 2008-04-15

This game has received many negative, undeserved comments. I would like to clear the air and say that I had a blast playing it. The weapons are very cool and original, unlike many of the other FPS on the market. I think the game has stayed very true to its roots, kill dinosaurs and maniacs. The creators have managed to make one more Turok game without it feeling like a remake. I wish this could be said for many of the other FPs games that just keep repeating themselves ( Tom Clancy could take a lesson in this department ).

The game play and controls are some of the best, and I have played all the big name FPS games. The knife kills take the melee attacks to a new level. The enviroments and backgrounds alone make the game worth playing. The A.I. will keeep you constantly moving, no more getting comfortable and picking your shots. You will have to think while you fight.

The designers have clearly made a huge effort to stay away from the standard FPS format and really paid off. This game made me remember why I love video games.
Xbox 360 Game     On: 2008-04-05

My son requested this game for his birthday and was checking the mail daily for it to arrive. Barely got into the house and he was already playing. I dont think I saw him for at least two hours. This is a very popular game in our house.
Good game but anoying     On: 2008-04-01

Im not gonna lie i didnt buy this one for me, but the time i have with this game it gave this impresion, good graphics, nice weapons and the ability to use two weapons at once,... the bow and the knife... anyway its all good but it gets anoying at somepoint... its kind of the same thing over and over... and the history well.... not that good.
Better than Halo 3     On: 2008-03-30

Best PS3 game but not the best on XBox 360
a fun and great 1st person shooter with very good online
and it is fun to kill monters
Great title     On: 2008-03-28

The game was a lot of fun in multiplayer, although the melee attack was only effective when the icon appeared to use it. If you miss, then youre left very vulnerable while you watch your arm do a slow downward stab. The A.I. is just that, and very effective. I would find myself reloading checkpoints just to see what different reactions dinosaurs and humans had to each other, what I did, and the environment. If you go through and end up dying and restarting your checkpoint, dont expect the exact same scenario. Sure, some of the guys will go to the same place they wee before, but some will be in a different place and react in a new way.
The length of the game was average, and whatever difficulty you play it on it will always challenge you.
I did not like the acheivments in the game. They are great, dont get my wrong, but I am ig on getting the acheivements in the game. Its like an added bonus to the game that microsoft has put onto the xbox. However, I am at a place where playing online gives me a 1-3 second delay, and it is nearly impossible to kill anyone. That said, most of the acheivements are online multiplayer ones, and how am I supposed to get them if it wont even let me into the game because my connection is so horrible? This was my biggest heartbreaker.
My other big heartbreaker is again with the online play. Since I couldnt play online some friends and I tried to get a game going through a local network, and this couldnt happen either. There had to be that connection with exbox live to eve play multiplayer. Why cant more games look to Halo for the multiplayer style? Its easy and great. We can play Halo until our hearts content.
Other than that, it is a fun game with a decent story line and some really cool weapons. And it wouldnt be Turok if you didnt have a bow and arrow. I found myself spending hours just pinning people to walls, I would have to say that is my addiction in the game. Thats why I would have to give this game four arrows out of five.
Glad I rented this vs buying it...     On: 2008-03-27

Ever see a movie trailer and think to yourself "maybe Ill wait until it comes out on DVD and rent it rather than paying to see it in the theater"? Well, after playing this game, I feel safe in saying that this one is one that I wish I had missed.

First the good, the graphics are really nice and the characters seem pretty solid as well. The fact that you can kill a dinosaur easier with a knife than you can an automatic weapon, while strange, is kind of cool. OK, thats about it for the good...
Ill skip the minor bad and go straight for the really bad so save space.

The game starts off safe enough, new guy appears on a military spaceship bound for some planet, looking for a "rouge leader". Suddenly, missle attack and the ship is going down. After crashing landing on the planet, only Turok and one other soldier is alive, at least at this point. You are on a planet with dinos and bad guys running around. Everything seems to go down hill from here. Now I like a challenge in a game, I have been through GRAW2, Assassinss Creed, Devil May Cry 4, and all 3 Halos. I like figuring out how to clear an area or how to get the best tactical advantage to advance in the game. However, after playing this game I started to use it for a frisbee. The battles in some cases have no clear ending, you clear the area, start to advance and a whole new group of guys come storming in. After the 3rd or 4th wave and several hundred rounds, if you are lucky enough to be alive, you MIGHT be able to advance if some guy wasnt hiding the whole time and blows up a barrel near you and takes you out. The check points are spaced so far apart that if you are being careful and taking slow movements so as to stay in hiding, it possible to start at a point, play for nearly an hour, get popped by someone you never even saw coming and go right back to the same starting point. Frustration SHOULD be part of the experience in a shooter like this, I agree, but at some point the frustration should be accompanied with catching a break, like putting more check points in the environment. The aiming on this game is really terrible. You have to try to bump the stick back and forth to get dead on the target while he and three of his friends are all shooting you. You know you are getting in trouble when things start going fuzzy and you have a hard time seeing. This is your health guage. A bar, or dial, a beep or something would be better. When you are fighting off the 3rd or 4th wave of soldiers to come into an area and you have already picked up all the spare ammo and you are doing your best to finish the area, your vision blurring a bit isnt a real clear indication of how much more you can take before you die.

In a nutshell, if you are despirate for something to add to your gamerang or gamefly que, this one might be ok, but I wouldnt recommend spending the $60 they are asking for it. Give it a couple weeks, I am sure youll find plenty of these in the used game stores... assuming that people dont toss the whole thing in the trash to prevent the embarrassment that they purchased it in the first place.
Very fun game, good delivery by amazon, great condition     On: 2008-03-10

I got this game very quickly, and enjoyed it very much. It was interesting to see the evolution of this title from the Super Nintendo all the way up to the Xbox360. Overall, this game is worth the money.
Nothing Special     On: 2008-03-10

I like the weapons in this game and the cool enviroments and Dinosaurs. I dont like how theres no blood when you shoot at the soldier guys. It is an M rated game... but whatever. Also the controls are kindof goofy and its really annoying when you keep on getting bumped over.
Not Bad at All!     On: 2008-03-07

Dears,
This game is not bad at all. I have played both the campaign and online multiplayer modes and both are nice. Yes this may not be as nice as Gears of War or Call of Duty 4, but it is just fun to play in both modes. The story is interesting and makes you that you want to finish it, and the online gives you a great challenging players and game types.
This game does not deliver.     On: 2008-03-04

Good concept, but terrible execution.
Unless you already have everything else this game isnt worth owning.
Reasonably good graphics, but terrible gameplay.

TRY THE DEMO BEFORE YOU BUY!!!
lots of hype . . . little bang     On: 2008-03-02

I watched all the commercials, read all the reviews in magazines and was sold on all the hype for this game. Unfortunately after playing the game it seems I know what this team spent the majority of their money on. the knifing of enemies is not fluid at all you have to wait until the game tells you to swing the blade, unlike call of duty 4. the weapons are somewhat creative but there are too few to have fun with. gameplay is so redundant. online play is horrible, that is if you can connect and stay connected to a game. Dont buy all the hype.
Checkpoints     On: 2008-03-01

As with most of the next gen games, I am sick and tired of set checkpoints. I want to save, when I want to save, not at some arbitrary point that forces me to replay the entire section 50 times, before the game finally auto-saves. Other than this frustration, this was an excellent game that held my interest. After 20 years, and too many bad games, I was pleased with the regen of Dino Hunter, and I will recommend the game to anyone
Nothing groundbreaking but worth a shot.     On: 2008-02-27

Turok is somewhat your run of the mill shooter it features no real new things done by first person shooters.Yes, there are new features we are not accustomed to but its nothing you should go out of your way to pick up.I purchased the game when it was $35 which is a reasonable price for this game.Much beyond that range though is a little steep for this game. The graphics are above average but its nothing to hold your grasp for too long though.Outside of the bow and the knife the weapons just seem watered down, there really weak and have no real function other than to stave you off until you can get some more arrows or in tight enough to use the knife. The multiplayer is also a very weak point its nothing worth righting home about. Its real laggy and relies more on luck than that persons true skill.

Overall this is a good title for $25-35 but much beyond that range is a little high.If you were a huge fan of the original like I am then you should definately check out Turok.

Final score
graphics 8.0
sound 8.5
story(non-existant) 6.5
legnth 10 hours 8.0
multiplayer 7.0
overall 7.5
Turok offers some fun, but a lot of frustration     On: 2008-02-25

I started playing this game to hopefully capture some of the N64 Turok magic. I really wanted to like it, but it fell short in key areas. The dinosaur knife kills are a fun perk, but as other reviewers mentioned, the turning is slow and the sensitivity isnt as good as Halo or COD4. I like a good challenge, but the checkpoint system was really frustrating. I dont like having to play a level for 20-30 minutes perfectly and then die before the next checkpoint because I didnt know how to destroy the boss on my first try. Also, I was disappointed that the game didnt have a co-op campaign mode on the same Xbox, or any splitscreen mode whatsoever.

Overall, Turok was well done in some sections but I think it fell short in key areas that wouldve made the game much more fun.
Fun at best, frustrating for the most part.     On: 2008-02-19

Ive got lots of mixed feelings for this game. Ill just make it nice and simple with the Pros and Cons.

Pros-
The graphics are done pretty well and I like the atmosphere of it. You actually feel like you might be in a jungle, and not just a scattering of trees, ledges, and bushes. The story could use some work, but it all ends well and doesnt leave much to the imagination (hate those loose-ends that seem to be popping up more often in newer games). The situations are inventive, most of them leave you with lots of options for attack. Theres a wide-variety dinosaurs you face as well. The instant-kill knife moves are fun. This game also incorporates stealth and not just sneaking and hoping the enemy doesnt see you from half a mile away and magically notifying EVERYTHING to your exact location at all times. Theres no auto-aim, which is good, because you cant get your reticle hung on a distant enemy when youre attempting to kill something thats jumping at your face. The TEK Bow and Arrows. Nuff said there. Theres also a FLAMETHROWER!! (major plus to me).

Now for the Cons-
Okay, I have never been so annoyed in my gaming experience as has happened in Turok. Ive been playing games for quite a while (got my first Playstation when I was seven and had a NES before that), and some of my worst experiences have happened with this. For instance, the T-Rex and Dilophosauruss ability to instantly teleport you into their mouthes. The last fight you have with the T-Rex was horrible for me. I recall being almost half way across the area from her and then I turned my head for a second and looked back. I had already died and it was at the loading screen. Another issue is that the AI can be overly intelligent at times. The enemy AI, that is. Your allies are just bullet-sponges and are pretty bad at that. They never take cover. Whereas the enemy AI can pull tactical maneuvers worthy of Napoleans ability. They know exactly where and how to flank you. Then you have the problem of being attacked by dinosaurs and CONSTANTLY being knocked down. Mix that with the enemy soldiers shooting at you and youre probably a goner. Onto the weapons. I was hoping wed have the cerebral bore and the rocket launcher that shot nukes from the older Turoks. The weapons were very creative and fun to use. Now we have the SMG, a shotgun, your standard 9mm pistol, an RPG, mini-gun, pulse rifle, and a little gun that shoots out "devastating" mines. The most creative thing is the flamethrower and TEK arrows (which were in previous games).

That being said, I think the game is good, but it has MUCH room for improvement.
Very Detailed Review of Turok     On: 2008-02-18

I have been playing Turok since its initial launch on the N64 to its evolution to the PS2 and X-Box. I was rather upset when the game just disappeared when Acclaim went under. Let me tell you, when I first heard of this new Turok coming out I was even more excited than I was when Halo 3 was released. I waited and watched for this game as its launch date approached nearer and nearer and the moment it was released to the public I purchased it, and I was happy with what I saw.

Graphics: Although they were not the best graphics Ive ever seen they were still very beautiful to look at. It seemed that the game designers concentrated more on the characters than on the background, a fatal flaw for most games, but I found that I did not mind as the gameplay was extremely intense. The backgrounds of the game, while extremely visually appealing, are very similar in nature. As you progress through the game you will only come across green, brown, yellow, yellowish-brownish-green, gray, blue, and grayish blue. Each background area is beautiful, but they are all essentialy the same. Now we reach the dinosaurs, the true stars of this game. Each dinosaur was created with such painstaking detail that it almost hurts me when I realize that I must kill them. Something that I really liked was the appearcne of blood on the dinos. The more you shoot them, the more blood paints their skin.
Graphics Overview: The dinos are amazingly done, the humans were well done but could have been better, and the backgrounds are very beautiful but repetitive. 4/5

Sound: In the jungle you cant always see whats stalking you, so you have to open your ears and listen lest you find yourself pinned to the ground with fanged jaws closing around your neck. The sound is very well done in this game. From the slight rustle you hear in the leaves to the low Boom of an incoming T-Rex approaching your position. Though you know what is coming, you still feel a sense of encroaching fear. The music is average at best. Quiet music plays during areas you need to be stealthy for and an intense piece of music plays while you either run for your life from Mama Scarface (the T-Rex) or are caught in a large scale Firefight when you are outnumbered by 20-1. The music isnt the best but its placed in the appropriate areas, and although it doesnt hurt the game, it doesnt help it either.
Sound Overview: The sounds made by dinos as they move toward you are scary and very well done but the music is par at best. 4/5

Gameplay (Single Player): The single player campaign is fun, but its far to short and way to frustrating (for some people). The beginning of the game is very easy and straight forward, if you see something you kill it. Nuff said. If a dino attacks you, pull out your knife and stab it in the head, say "Holy crap, that was awesome," then continue on and do it again when you see another dino. The knife becomes little more than an instant kill button and you soon find out that in most areas gune are for pansies. The game isnt very forgiving of your mistakes. You make a single mistake on Normal mode and you may live to tell about it, but on the other difficulties you will find yourself at your last checkpoint faster than you can say "Crap." This brings me to the checkpoints. They are very few and far between. For every one checkpoint that you find you may have found 3 or 4 if you were playing Halo or Gears of War. This makes the game very frustrating sometimes as you just carved a bloody swathe through your enemies and are inches away from a checkpoint that took you 20 minutes to reach only to be shot in the back by the one guy lucky enough to avoid your weapons, and now you have to start the 20 minute cycle, hoping that you kill them all this time. Lastly, we arrive at the boss fights. This is a shooter that has intense battles at regular intervals and boss fights that actually feel like boss fights. Like old school shooters, the bosses have weaknesses that you must find and exploit or else you die. The boss fights are very reminescent of the old school shooters of the golden age of video games, and although not as good as they could have been, are the shining points of this game. A very frustrating part of the game is the sensitivity of your turning. Its to sluggish at its standard setting, making it hard for you to react to incoming attacks. Tweaking the sensitivity takes time and uses a lot of trial and error, either overshooting your enemy because you turn to fast, or falling short. Once you find the right setting for yourself you will be surprised how much easier it is to catch enemies before they attack you.
Gameplay (Single Player) Overview: While the game is fun it gets repetitive. The bosses actually feel like bosses. The checkpoints are very frustrating. 3/5

Gameplay (Multiplayer): Multiplayer is perhaps the most fun this game has to offer. There are several maps, all of which are infested with dinosaurs and other hazards that seperate you and your team from the opposing side. This offers some interesting variety to the see an enemy and kill him that all multiplayer shooting games seem to have adopted these days. They now add the see an enemy, stalk him, avoid dinosaurs, kill him without being noticed by any enemies. Or, you could stick your victim with a flair and watch as the dinosaurs, who are attracted to shiny things, attack the now shiny person. You could even stick a dino with a sticky bomb and watch it run at a group of your enemies, detonate the bomb, and watch with satisfaction as the dino and all of your unfortunate enemies explode in a hail of body parts. The only downfall I find with Turoks multiplayer is the fact that it does not include the ability to play with two or more people on one system, you can only play with multiple people via X-Box Live, or the PS3 online network.
Gameplay (Multiplayer) Overview: Very fun. Adds variety to a repetitive style of multiplayer gameplay. Cant play multiplayer on your own X-Box. A nice break from games like Halo and Gears of War. 4/5 (Only because you cant play multiplayer on one X-Box.)

Gameplay (Multi-Player Co-Op): Co-Op for this game has an independant story that is very loosely tied into the main game. The co-op portion of the game is hard, and so you dont underestimate the difficulty of this game I will repeat the above statement. The co-op portion of the game is HARD. It is so hard that it is nigh impossible to complete with any less than 4 players. You are so outnumbered and outgunned that if one player makes a mistake the rest of the team is almost assured defeat. But fear not, you are given multiple lives, 2 each if I remember correctly, and are rewarded with a full stock of lives, if you lost any, each time you reach a checkpoint. The co-op portions are short, only about as long as one single mission from the main story, and there are only three co-op missions in total, and they offer very little in replay value. All in all, they only give you about an evening worth of pleasure.
Gameplay (Multiplayer Co-Op) Overview: The difficulty of these missions makes it very fun for you and a few friends to team up and tackle it just for the sake of overcoming a challenge. Far to short. 3/5

Overall, Turok is a solid game. It could have been better, but then again so could every game ever made. This game feels like an old school shooter, which I love, and has great boss battles. Although the game is off to a rocky start because of some serious flaws in its design, it has the potential to grow into a franchise that rivals the original N64 Turok. The game designers are taking a step in the right direction. With a little more polishing and a longer game they could have a shooter that rivals even Halo and Gears of War.

Overall:
Graphics: 4
Sound: 4
Gameplay (Single Player): 3
Gameplay (Multiplayer): 4
Gameplay (Multiplayer Co-Op): 3
Average: 3.6 (Closer to 4)
Dont waste $$$ on This...     On: 2008-02-18

This game is not good at all. Good thing that i got it for free (as a present). I was hoping for something way better. The gameplay is dumb, you can keep on killing the dinosaurs with the special "knife move" over and over again (the move is ALWAYS the same, so it gets boring after about 3 kills lol). I havent finished the game, but im already bored as hell, i think im not even on the half way mark. The weapons suck too. I havent played the multiplayer, but i guess its gonna be bad as well. I wouldnt waste money on this game. If i dont like a game that much, at least i get some achievements. Well... not in this case, because i find it too boring to even get some achievement points out of it. Harsh review, but its true. I own COD 4, Rainbow, Gears, and theyre sweet. Not TUROK though. Good luck if you buy this.
Disappointed isn't even the word to use when describing this..     On: 2008-02-16

Wow, I honestly dont think I couldve found a better way to waste 50$ just short of tossing it down a toilet drain.

Horrible graphics, redundent gameplay over and over and over again, horrible weapon selection...

I could keep going and going, just do yourself a favor and dont waste your money on this despite how awesome you think it would be to get nostalgic and buy it because you owned it on N64.

Seriously.
Turok is good for what it is...     On: 2008-02-12

Turok is a dino killing FPS. The controls leave some things to be desired, but after you adjust the sensitivity how you want it, it isnt that bad.

The good stuff? These are some mean dinosaurs for real. the melee kill function is nice (shove your dagger through the top of a dinos skull). The bad guys (I forget their names) are pretty hardcore and can spot you from a good distance. The best though are of course, the dinos. No auto-aim (which I like) and once a dino gets a hold of you, you switch to a melee attack using your triggers to kill the dino or at least keep him at bay. The soundtrack is minimal and hypnotic, its a great part of the experience if you notice it. Weapons? The compound bow is awesome, some of the other weapons leave you wanting more.

The bad stuff? No this is not and will never be COD4. The environments are lush, but can become pixelated. The cut scenes are downright painful and the storyline is weak. I bought this on a whim and cannot play it in front of my kids (a well deserved M rating). There is no adjustment for brightness or contrast, which kind of sucks.

Take Turok for what it is... dino-killing porn and youll like it. Compare it to COD4 and you will be (of course) really disappointed.
Sadly not the game I expected     On: 2008-02-11

I play Shooters religiously, Rainbow 6 Vegas, COD 4, Gears of War are arguably some of the best shooters around. And yes, Halo 3 was good as well. I remember seeing the Turok game for the first time many years ago and being captured by the overall gameplay and of course the weapons. But this time around it doesnt live up to the hype. The graphics are not what you would expect for a next generation game, no where near COD4. Also, any game that doesnt offer a full Co-op story mode gets a negative notch from me. If Halo is one of the biggest selling shooters of all time, everyone should use the features they offer as the blueprint to build on, like full co-op story mode. Sadly Ill be taking this game back and will buy Army of Two instead.
Great game!!!     On: 2008-02-11

One of the funnest games for Xbox 360, if you have any interest this is worth playing
Turoks back!     On: 2008-02-10

This game is great and the best in the series. Good graphics, story and voice overs are awesome.Controls might seem a bit sluggish to so called gamers that complain and gripe about no auto aim. It really isnt that hard to aim and control. Its not Cod4 (best FPS controls ever)but its not that difficult to shoot and aim. One of the best action adventure games I played in awhile. This game is challenging and Im playing it on normal. Been awhile since a good game came out thats challenging.(Ninja Gaiden anyone)? Im actually having more fun in the story mode on Turok then I did in Cod4.

My only problem is the sound effects from the weapons and online play. Seems the servers are having problems at the moment. Other then that this is a great game and worth the money. If your having second thoughts on Turok rent it first. I think Turok is going to be the most underated game this year. Love it or Hate Turok is back.
I enjoyed it!!     On: 2008-02-10

This game is not too bad at all. I would have given it three stars if I wasnt playing on 720p-1080p. I originally purchased the ps3 version, then brought it back due to the controllers. The xbox 360 controllers are closer to the n64. Ending was somewhat disappointing, but the gameplay and movement thanks to the unreal engine were good. Overall if your a turok fan get this if your not only get this if you have an hdtv or flatscreen that renders 720-1080p.
I actually dig the game...     On: 2008-02-10

Compared to top-notch FPSs like Halo and Bioshock, Turok doesnt measure up. However, if you take Turok for what it is, its, in my opinion, a good game.

Gameplay could be better but its at least satisfactory. Expect to die fairly frequently but Turok is not a run-and-gun game; you have to plan your attack (which is why you have stealth weapons like the bow and knife). The dual-wielding of almost every weapon helps in the harder parts. Personally, I like my enemies to be a little hard to kill, no one or two-shot kills. Turok delivers this (sometimes a bit over-the-top, like when youre fighting several enemies at once). Once again, Turok doesnt compare to top-tier games like Halo, but its pretty high second-tier. Once you get the gameplay down its exciting and action-packed.

The graphics and storyline impressed me (and Im used to graphics-heavy games like Gears of War). The voice acting is great without exception and the visuals for the most part are really good.

After reading mixed reviews about Turok, I rented it and had a blast. Ill be buying it as soon as I can to continue the carnage, hah.

Great game!     On: 2008-02-08

Great return to form by the dinosaur hunter. This is one of the best games for Xbox 360 with a strong single player and even better multiplayer. If you expect it to be exactly the same as the old games, you will be disappointed. But if you give it a chance you will find an amazing game with a great story, phenomenal graphics and amazing dinos. Buy it!
Deflating HYPE machine     On: 2008-02-08

Wow. I guess they figure the graphics are a bit updated so they can pass it off as a cutting edge PS3 issue for the New Year. Bzzt! This is a straight terrible game. All you have to do is play the demo, dont bother with the game if you are really that interested. Game itself is nearly worse. RFOM like controls, another game I thought was very dissapointing. Sound is like voice overs, doesnt match the action. I was bored killing dinosaurs after about 2 kills but I went on so I could give it a proper chance. Your partner in the game, your guide throughout the maps has archaic, unatural 2D movements. Ive been dying to rent Uncharted what 1st or 2nd best game for the PS3 for ages yet its never in, one copy everywhere, sometimes none, yet they have like 4 copies of Turok at every Blockbuster. Like sticking a knife in my side, this game is an embarrasment. They should pay us $60 to play the demo. Shame on you Turok developers!
Always offer an embedded multi player!!! Unlike Turok.     On: 2008-02-08

My young son couldnt wait to continue our tradition of Turok starting back with the great Nintendo 64 titles, so imagine my chagrin when I immediately found that the only multi-player choice for this game was xbox LIVE. Give us a break guys. Always offer a multi-player choice...always.
A Decent Game 6 Years Ago     On: 2008-02-08

I really wanted to like this game....

To me this game wasnt fun at all. The movements are slow and awkward; There are times when you are being attacked and you cant even tell where its coming from, mostly due to clumsy, plodding controls that dont allow you to react as quickly as you would like. The graphics to me were far from next gen; While very creative in theory, the graphics are often muddy and not very well defined(esp. when compared to a game like Drakes Fortune or even Far Cry, which both had great jungle look to them. The creatures are cool, but you are often outnumbered...and with the sub par controls, youre usually dead meat. I have been playing FPSs for a long time, and while Im not the best, Im def not a novice. I know when I died because of my idiocy and when I died because of a control issue. This doesnt even control as well as games from 4 or 5 years ago, like DOOM 3, Return to Castle Wolfenstein; Tides of War, or Killzone. I guess I just found this really boring and not up to snuff. I didnt really care about the story, and the action was more annoying than fun. I dont understand why this game wasnt made into the game it could have been. Hard to believe no one spoke up and said Hey, this isnt good enough.... Or maybe they did, and were promptly fired. Play at your own risk; A rental at best.
Turok is back, for better or worse
by: kinggrim    On: 2008-02-06

Remember Turok: Dinosaur Hunter? One of the original launch titles way back when for the Nintendo 64, Turok enjoyed a solid series of FPS over the next few years, and then just vanished (mainly thanks to then publisher Acclaim going under). Well, Turok is back in action and in familiar settings, as he takes on baddies, mutants, and of course, dinosaurs. The game gets off to a great start as you are fully engulfed in Turoks dangerous environments, but sadly it doesnt take too long to see just what all Turok has to offer. The redundant enemies, areas, and an overall feeling of the linear are fully on display with Turok, which offers little in the way of surprises after you first put some time into the game. Graphically speaking, Turok gets the job done, but youll play far better looking FPS on the XBox 360, and the texture glitches dont help the cause here either. Flaws aside, Turok has a fair share of good points as well: the games musical score is fantastic, there is a very nice assortment of weapons and are implemented quite well, the dinos look and sound good, and co-op and multiplayer options are solid. All in all, youll certainly play better FPS, but for what its worth, Turok is a fun, albeit flawed, shooter that is better than the sum of its parts.
