Best MOH Since Frontline
I bought this game last week, and along with Brothers in Arms: Hells Highway, its my new favorite video game.
A few people have said that its not as good as this MOH game or that MOH game or some other game from another series, but if you take it as it is its actually a very good, fun game.
Though it is true it is a relitively short game (six levels) it has remarkably replayable. Its not a game where you play it once through and then turn around and sell it. You can try dropping in in different points on the map or upgrade all your weapons which unlocks a few special features.
As far as enemy AI their not a smart as the enemys in BIA:HH but they at least dont stand in the open to get shot to bits, or banzi charge you to just get killed they actually use cover pretty well and most of the time. Also the aim is pretty good too even in the Easy difficulty.
Someone said that the fightings not as intense as in MoH Vanguard, well I cant back that up or shoot down that statement I do have to say that the fighting in this game is some of the most intense Ive ever played, especially in the last two levels.
The music and graphics are great too. The soundtrack is done by Michael Giacchino who also did the first three games then left the series and did soundtracks for other games like Mercenaries and movies like Speed Racer. The graphics are great. Best Ive ever seen (actually thats since this is my first Xbox 360 game, I played PS2 for years before this game so naturally the graphics are way better).
The weapons are great too. All are upgradeable as I said before. Some upgrades are better than others though. Like the last shotgun upgrade.
I have been trying to think of some bad things about the game, but I cant think of any besides game length. The desiners could have added more missions but that it would be changing the war, since every air drop is covered.
All-in-all I give this game a five star rating. Maybe its because I love the series or the time period, IDK. If you are a WWII buff you probably will like the game but if you are just a FPS fan and play every FPS than maybe you wont find it as great.
Well enjoy. Peace. :)
Good shooter
Not anything special, but I like it. I love WWII games, and it delivers action, as usual for this series.
The M.O.H series has died with this game...
You play as a guy named Travers who is in the United States Airborne division. Basically, your character and the rest of his troops jump out of planes and into different WW2 locations and basically either destroy something or kill nazis. Theres really no "story" like the other Medal of Honor games where you feel that your character is doing something extrodinary (like in Frontline where you infiltrate a German base disguised as a Nazi with some Nazi papers). You get your usual array of weapons in this game ranging anywhere from the M1 Garand and BAR assault rifle to the Panzershrek, Springfield sniper rifle and MP40. However, each gun is terribly inaccurate and do almost the same amout of damage as each other. What do I mean? Well for example I will be holding a Thompson machine gun, I will literally empty and entire clip into one soldier and he will do. On the next victim I used the Gweher and it took me an entire clip to lay him out. You are also awarded upgrades to your guns such as less recoil or a scope if you score enough headshots and kills with said guns. However, most of the upgrades are completley useless since the aiming and recoil (even with the upgrade for "less recoil") is still atrocious.
Lets talk hit detection. Pretty much, no matter where you shoot a Nazi...he will simply shrug it off and run away. You could shoot him in the chest with a Springfield (which in real life would blow a huge gaping hole in his chest cavity), hell stagger for a minute and then dive behind cover. This is EXTREMLEY annoying, and is actually one of the reasons a previous MOH game did so bad (anyone remember Rising Sun?).
The multiplayer is garbage. If your allies, you parachute into the action. Sounds cool right? Not when enemies snipers just keep picking you off before you hit the ground. It probably wouldnt be so bad if you could.. oh, I dont know.. shoot a gun while parachuting?! Basically, your a target until you hit the ground. Ontop of that, your allies and enemies arent clearly labeled. So for instance, youll see a character standing there with no name or anything above his head... you kill him, and boom you score a team kill because you had no idea. God, so lame.
Your allies AI is disgusting. They will just stand there and get shot at without doing anything. The best example I have of this is in the 4th level where you are fighting in the city - I had an allied troop taking cover in a ruined building.... with an enemy standing right next to him. Terrible.
And additionally, I guess the game testers must have been sleeping when they gave this game the thumbs up. On more than one occassion bullets would go right through the walls or cover you are trying to hide behind. LAMMMEEEEEEE.
Oh, and expect to have a screaming match with your TV. This is one of the hardest titles ever. Youll die over and over and over and over and over and over just to gain an inch of land and then have it taken away because the checkpoint system is garbage. Since your AI is so bad and there are clipping issues, youll basically be fighting the entire Nazi army by yourself.
The graphics arent next gen, and are actualyl a step down from what Call of Duty has set as a standard for the genre of WW2 shooters. Characters look choppy, the explosions are pixelated and sloppy, and the only thing good about the graphics are the environments & guns.
As for as music goes, this has the worst soundtrack in the entire franchise. I was deeply dissapointed with the generic war time music used instead of the epic chorus and strings usually used. And the fact that the theme song isnt even the same is heart shattering.
As far as Im concerned, the Medal of Honor games are dead. This is just a terrible game all around, and its really sad because Im a huge fan of the series. The sheer lack of effort in almost every aspect of the game makes this an untouchable title. 2.5 rounds spent in my Garand out of 10.
A somewhat srange WWII FPS.
A fairly good game in most respects, but it has some strange characteristics to it. The controls are different from most FPS games on the 360, and the way you can level up weapons is strange. The ability to use cover and peak is a welcome addition that many FPS games do not have. The game is sometimes overly patriotic at points, and there are no soldiers from other allied nations, such as the British, anywhere in the game. Historical accuracy is also thrown out the window in the last 2 levels of the game. Still fun to play, but more thought should have been put into its development.
Fun, at times infuriating
I want to say that this game is hackneyed and yet another addition to the WWII FPS genre, but enough reviewers have already discussed this so Ill move on to my biggest gripe with this game - glitches.
MOHA (campaign mode, specifically) is easily the buggiest FPS Ive ever played. The glitches range from the harmless:
AI characters getting stuck in animation loops
AI characters "ghosting" and becoming frozen mid-action (you can walk through them, but cant shoot them)
to infuriating:
You often get shot through solid objects, such as concrete blocks and large boxes (keep in mind that MOHA, unlike COD4, has no "shoot through thin objects" feature)
AI characters often seem to randomly teleport from one location to another
Enemies see you through thick smoke, which you cannot see through
Enemies with large, inaccurate weapons (panzerschrecks, recoilless guns) have better accuracy than the player equipped with a sniper rifle, at bafflingly long distances
When its cruddiness isnt obvious, MOHA is actually a fun game. While parachuting often comes across as a nicely executed afterthought, the fights themselves are quite enjoyable (though the game is extremely frugal with regard to checkpoints, which makes it especially hard on higher difficulty settings).
Final word: Medal of Honor: Airborne is a game thats worth a rental, but its campaign mode is definitely not worth the money.
Good Game
I got this to hold me over until the next "best" FPS came out. I only played it for a few hours before leaving for Florida. I passed it on to my grandson to play while I am gone. I will get back to it in April.
The game was fun, had lots of action, and played well for a FPS. Not at Halo 3 or Mass Effect level but I was impressed. Worth the money and time playing.
EA! WHY THIS SOUR NOTE WITH YOUR MEDAL OF HONOR THEME?
My favorite game is the FPS, especially the WWII era. So, I became desperate when my new Dell with Windows VISTA would simply not allow CALL OF DUTY 2 to run. I bought a used copy of MOH-Airborne.
I must agree with many reviewers here that note how incredibly SHORT it was for the price. Over too quickly.
I must take it one step further and say [BEWARE - SPOILER!]
Its difficult enough to put up with MOHs habit of relying so much on film clips or video runs of action to fluff up their game; couldnt this same space be used more creatively/wisely in providing the buyer/ player more challenges? More shooting time/targets...than simply watching a cartoon play? That is not why I buy GAMES, anyway.
Anyway...the coup de grace.
Why in the WORLD would they sink to the depths of a simple arcade-type shooter scenario for their last one in the game? It was sickening that I turned the game off after I ran into their illconceived and endless stream of UBER-Reichsman with their hip-firing MG-42s; the ones that will NOT die until 5-6 direct head shots with a shotgun with all its upgrades?
I mean, the game states that the nazis are holed up in this tower to make their last stand? I expected to run into TONS of enemies, perhaps a bit more determined than those Id encounted up to that point. Im not even going to ask why in the world theyre wearing GAS MASKs, when there is none being used. I mean...if they have those, why not say theyre USING GAS! Make our hero have to locate one that is not in use ASAP...something like that?
That truly ruined this game for me and is why I cannot recommend this game to anyone for anything more than $4.99, which should include the shipping if you can swing it.
I hate to be so critical but MOH does now simply pale in comparison with any of the COD products.
By the way, the illustration in game pre-set-up? Where the hero is waiting @ the corner with a bazooka type weapon? Hes got a PVT stripe on his shoulder and Tech. Sgts stripes on his cover. Seriously. Do they ever consult with anyone who has ever, you know, been involved with the military in any capacity? It would help.
Im not going to go into the fact that several encounters feature HORDES of German soldiers all bearing the VERY RARE assault rifle, [whose nomenclature escapes me @ the moment.] Just kooky.
Anyway...it all seems like it was a parting shot for the MOH series that totally missed the mark.
Sorry, folks.
When it becomes a grind, it's really not that much fun
My feelings about Medal of Honor Airborne are clearly going to be beholding to Infinity Wards Call of Duty efforts and any war themed first person shooter really should be as they are the standard bearers for quality. So, lets address a few of the obvious points that make a game worth the effort or not. When I say MoHA is a grind, I might be putting it lightly. Soldiers, as the game wears on, will take more damage than a tank. It really becomes a chore to have to slog through these super Nazis and a bit too unrealistic. It was tough to get through CoD on Veteran difficulty, but even on Casual, in MoHA, it doesnt seem challenging, just more like the game is cheating to make it harder. I never felt that way in CoD 2 or 4 (3 doesnt count) and never got so annoyed I just didnt care to play any more, which happened a lot as MoHA wore on. The gameplay is just not that compelling or immersive.
The graphics are servicable for a current generation shooter and there are no superlative aspects that stick out in my mind. I noticed a lot of shiny objects that shouldnt have been. Thats the only thing that sticks out in my mind if youre interested in a negative.
The missions were ok in that the layout was open so you could approach most missions in any order seen fit. There was an awkward element to this though, in that most of the time, after dieing, the character would be jumping out of the plane again to parachute back down onto the playing field where all of the prior completed objectives would still be cleared. This only plays into the fact that the parachuting aspect of the game is a gimmick, the only value of which, are the Skill Jump achievements. Its not a really exciting mechanic, so the fact that the player might jump out of the plane 20 times (for each time you happen to die) makes it less realistic and more of a chore (load times and real time adding to the grind) than it is fun.
The peak and lean mechanic, where the player can mover around in cover, is a really nice feature as is the weapon upgrade experience feature (weapons become more efficient and improved as they are used more). These would be nice additions to other games but, as a whole, dont really help make the act of playing Medal of Honor Airborne better enough to make it a good game. The overall gameplay keeps that from happening.
In the end, Medal of Honor Airborne is a perfectly average game. It works. It doesnt look terrible. There are a few good things about it. Its really not that memorable. While I will remember CoD 2 & 4 as all time greats, MoHA will fade along with most other gaming experiences Id just as soon forget. And the also ran parade marches on...
Medal of Irritation
I have been playing the Medal of Honor games since their inception. However, this one is worst ever produced. Are the graphics bad? No, they are pretty good. How about the weapons and setting? Those are pretty good too.
The problem is that playing this game will really piss you off.
The difficulty is really off on this one. Sure, you can take some hits, but the enemies can take half a clip of .30 caliber ammunition and still charge at you too! Also, lets say you die, you are started in a spot where it may take minutes (1-2) or (5-7) for your "squad" to show up and help you. So basically, for some unknown amount of time, you must fight the entire German army by yourself. Phew, my "squad" is finally here. I hope they can help me out now. Aaaaawe they are all dead from a single grenade. Your "squad" AI makes them act like a bunch of drunken raccoons, rather than a crack airborne unit.
Lets take some of the weapons:
When you fire a submachine gun, you really cannot hit anything further than about 30 meters, however, when you have a rifle and are trying to hit a target at, oh, say 100 meters, that guy is peppering you with submachine gun fire the whole time you are aiming.
How about rocket launchers? Everyone loves those. When you fire a Panzerschreck at a tank, it will take a good 3+ hits before blowing up. Also, if a guy is standing behind a steel girder, and you hit the girder with 10 rockets, he is still not going to die.
Now lets move on to the SS troopers in the train yard that shoulder MG42s. After I emptied a full BAR clip into one guy, and he didnt die, I turned a $50 controller in a $.05 pile of rubble.
Hey, since you are going to die often (about every 30 seconds or so), there must be a good way to save your progress right? No, not really. There is a "checkpoint" system in the game. This system, however, does not use your progress in different areas as some other games do. Rather it uses the completion of a mission goal as a save point. Not too bad, right? The problem is that there are some missions where completing a mission goal can take quite a while. These same missions always appear to be the ones full of snipers and 500 nazis hiding above you in scaffolding. After the 35th time you try to get a particular goal, you will know what I mean.
I used to play both this game and Call of Duty, rating them pretty equally, but Im afraid the MOT franchise has gone downhill if this is the kind of offering they are moving forward with.
Save yourself some broken glasses, controllers, coffee tables, etc. and buy one of the Call of Duty games instead. You will be 10 times happier.
Much better than anticipated.
This is one of those games where i wanted to not like it because my friends hated it but i enjoyed it.This game implements new ideas not seen in the latest batch of ww2 shooters. The isnt a do this and then this , you get to pick your choice on which objectives to go after first and then work through them in whatever way you see fit.The weapons feel more realistic than the ones on cod3.Their is strong variation among the enemies I would guess there are 25 types of enemies, which makes you feel part of something bigger. The only real strikes to this game are as follows:short(5-8 hours), relatively easy, and the story is nothing extra either.I played about 5 matches on the multiplayer(i rented it).The multiplayer feels a little like call of duty 4 just not as polished and as good of graphics. When i was on there were also only about 275 people online ,so be prepared to wait for a game. All said and done this is a really good world war 2 game not the best fps out there, but definately worth your consideration as a rental..
good game. stupid achievements.
this game, just like all of the other moh series are great and fun to play. there is a decent amount of replay value in xbox live and going through to beat it in all the difficulty levels and unlocking achievements but there are some buggy parts in the game that are annoying as hell. for example, when you need to land on a skill jump, some skills jumps require you to land in an exact spot otherwise you wont get it. (i had to land on a pillar for a skill jump and i did but didnt get it until i landed on a certain corner at a certain angle, which i found out on youtube). but besides the achievements and such, the run, iron sights, etc are great and fun to play with. graphics are decent, not overly amazing like other fps games on the xbox360 and the mechanics arent as realistic as i expected but still fun to play. the ai can be stupid sometimes, getting stuck on corners or running in circles which is hilarious. wished there was a co-op option to this game.
Cheap knockoff
I dont know what everyone else is talking about.. I think this game was very poorly made. The graphics arent that great at all. (probably worse then call of duty 2). The controls are sketchy and unconfortable. Overall EA was just copying call of duty 2 but did a bad job. Buy call of duty 2 its like 20 bucks.
Better Than COD 4
I havent been a fan of MOH or COD games for years, since they did millions of sequels and nothing new.
Airborne offers superb graphics and something really cool. You basically jump out of a plane and choose where to go and what mission you want to complete. Plus there are weapons skills that go up. The weapons and sounds are realistic, and it offers online play but i dont got my xbox 360 hooked up to internet. Animation is also amazing, gives lots of life.
Not too many missions but they do last a while if u try to raise all your skills on the weapon systems they have and do an airdrop at certain hidden points to get achievements.
COD4 on the other hand has better graphics but it so fake and straight forward. But there is a plot. Weapons fire like BB guns. Not a fan.
Nicely done and intense
I am an avid WWII history nut and this game helps put some animation to the historical fact. The game is smooth and somewhat intuitive. I found the final mission, the Tower, to be very challenging. If I were to make changes, they would be less repetitive chatter from my fellow soldiers, like "take cover, move move" at least two thousand times, and the NAZIs "Ya, Americana" a couple of more thousands gets very annoying. Also my fellow soldiers get in the line of fire way too often, though there is no loss of life or punishment for shooting them. I love the game.
SLG
Amazing Game
This is currently my favorite. The game play is intense, much better than Halo3, the scenery and story have been very well researched. Congrats to all involved in making this game.

Best Medal of Honor Game Yet
This has definitely been my favorite Medal of Honor game yet. Im a big fan of WWII games and this series in particular. The levels are great and the graphics are really good. I definitely recommend this game.
Good or Bad, WW2 Never Dies
The 360 showcases wonderful lighting and intense firefights in MOHA. Unlike last gen WW2 titles in which programmers used lots of tricks to make it seem like a big battle, MOHA has large levels and lots of enemies, so that after parachuting in youll turn into a human meat-grinder, shredding Krauts in two with your BAR. The sounds also bring the experience home: explosions, rifle fire, soldiers screaming, and soaring music to pump you up. MOHAs good, not great, but good. EA definitely should turn to a new venue in its series, but MOHA is a good exit.
Too short
I love this game. The only problem is the length. As you play, the chapter seem to fly by, then all of the sudden, the war is over and the credits roll.
Fantastic shooter that destroys its competition
Forget Call of Duty 3. Forget scripted blah blah blah missions. Forget endless waves of drone enemies who will let you destroy divisions of them if only you had the ammo. Airborne is fantastic! Non linear boards, intelligent enemy, great weapons, beautiful looks and sound...this game has anything you would want in a WW2 shooter. I was hesitant on the upgradeable weapons, but the upgrades are all genuine components like forward pistol grips (we call them "Ghetto Grips" in the Army today), improved muzzle breaks, better sights, larger magazines, and the ability to fire a limited number of rifle grenades off some. No death rays or anything stupid like that. Very well done game. It can be quite challenging, and patience is a must in this. You cant run and gun your way to Berlin. Ill make the suggestion right off, jump with the 1903 Sniper Rifle on every mission, ditch it for a Garand or whatever else, and come back and get it when you need it. That was the only way I could get through some of those boards. Really though, it was an excellently done game that reminded me quite a bit of Band of Brothers. No moronic squad stuff, no linear missions, no "I didnt want to be here" feeling sorry for myself garbage like in the Company of Heroes. Great and challenging shooter that will not disappoint.
Too short
I love this game. The only problem is the length. As you play, the chapter seem to fly by, then all of the sudden, the war is over and the credits roll.
Medal of Honor Airborne Could of Been Made A Better Game
First of all, Medal of Honor Airborne only has six missions to play in and that is it. The game should have had at least twelve missions to play in it to be called a full version game. This game is suppose to be a full version game. Not a add-on or an expansion game. I feel like I have been ripped off by someone.
Of the six missions, only the first four missions honor the men that fought in World War II. The last two missions do not honor the brave soldiers who fought during World War II. The last two missions are fantasy made missions that remind me of going to amusement park. You have super Nazis in the last two missions that take forever to kill. Shoot them in the head or blow them up with grenades it doesnt do any good. It takes at least fifty to a hundred shots with your weapon to take down one of these super Nazis. I felt like I needed to find a super weapon like a laser gun to bring them down.
I notice in the fifth mission (Operation Varsity) there are railroad cars that are not European made rail cars. They are North American made railroad cars. What is up with that? It is quite obvious that somebody just slapped some North American railroad cars into the mission just to finish it.
In the last mission, (Operation Der Flakturm) American paratroopers land on a German Flak tower in Germany right after Operation Varsity. This mission never took place during World War II. The Russians were the only ones to assault German Flak towers during the war. In fact, the Flak tower used in the game never even got built in Germany. There was three generations of Flak towers built by the Germans during the war and only the first two generations of towers were built in Germany. Those towers were built in the German cities of Berlin and Hamburg during the war and that was it. The game shows a third generation built Flak tower built in Germany, that was actually built in Vienna, Austria during the war and that was it.
It almost seems like two different teams of game developers work on the Medal of Honor Airborne game. One team worked on the first four missions of the game which were realistic and actually happen during World War II while another team worked on the last two missions in the game which are more sci-fi and fantasy. I really wanted to like this game because Im a big World War II fan.
This another example of a game that should of went somewhere that ended up going nowhere. Either the game publisher or the game developer just wanted to hurry and finish the game just to try to beat the holiday rush. Somebody was trying to hurry and make some money on this game before the other big name titles come out later on this year. I hate to say it, but Call of Duty 4 is going to be the game to beat this year.
Awesome game
This game is really awesome, being able to parachute in makes the game that much more fun, because its never the same. The only thing disapointing about the game is there are no vehicles to drive, other then that the game really rocks, and to the critics who judge a game based on the amount of blood seen, really need to seek professional help.
Follow Me!!
Overall a great game to play. Good first person shooting. Charators are a little stiff.
warfare
this is another call of duty 2 wannabe but, fail in the try . this title is even worse with the graphics it seen like Im playing my regular xbox . online play is funny. but not fun as call of duty 2 and 3 or another warfare game as the ghost recong 2 or R. six vegas. SORRY BUT THIS IS A DISSAPOINTING GAME.FOR A WARFARE OR FPS GAME. NOT RECOMENDED
The First Medal of Honor for Next Gen
Medal of Honor: Airborne is the latest game in the Medal of Honor franchise and ever since it was announced, I was looking forward to it and now that its out, was it worth the wait? It depends on weather or not your into WWII games.
There is a new twist on this as you jump out of a plane and land wherever the hell you want. Of course, this is a good and bad thing as you control where to land(always try to lend near the green smoke) though if you dont, you might be DOA because if you want to be a daredevil and land in enemy territory, the Germans will shoot as soon as you land(botched landings wont give you time to fire).
As for the gameplay itself, the AI is pretty smart. They will come chasing after you even if you cower in the corner like a little girl. There is a new way of destroying tanks as well. Gammon gernades must be found and they do A LOT of damage to the tanks but also to any German who might be in your way as well as your own men.
Airborne is not an easy game even with the easy difficulty. Prepare to die many times. The AI is smart as are your men(though sometimes they dont follow you).
Overall, there are a total of six missions including once again Operation Market Garden and the last part of this mission is a direct rip off of Call of Duty: Roads to Victory (if you played it you know what I am talking about).
All in all, Medal of Honor: Airborne is a game you should get if your a fan of the series or just plain WWII games. And though it is fairly short, it should keep you busy until Call of Duty 4 is released.
This is MEDAL OF HONOR!
Ive been playing since these games were introduced. I have to say, Rising Sun and European Assault were fun, but just not the "one man army" situation I liked in Frontline. But man does this blow away Frontline and all the others! Great gameplay, smooth as hell, no lags in between movements, (and I dont have a high definition t.v.!!! I can only imagine what this is going to look like on my buddys 52 inch sony 1080 on PS3!!! Right now, though Im playing it on XBOX--it kicks butt! The weapon awards and upgrades are fantastic, the AI response by enemies is the best Ive seen (its almost like walking through Saving Private Ryan!) I love this stuff and I love that Speilberg was the brains behind developing these games to EA. And the expansive graphics and details are amazing!!! (Again, even on a little t.v.) And the fire and explosion effects are terrific as well as the AI banter between squad members, and lets not forget--theres blood!!!! Which is a plus--but a few tips for future Medal of Honor games--Lets get more relistic. I want blown off body parts, guys trying to run or crawl away and hide--MUCH MORE PLEASE!! COME ON! MORE! GREEEAAAT GAME!!! Ive played all the Call of Duties. This blows them all out of the water for detail, historical accuracy and overall fun!!
More of the same...which is why I didn't buy..
This is bascially nothing new! Which is typical from MOH. Stick with Call of Duty.. This game is a rental, not a buy, what a boring game. This game never has any realistic blood or gore like Brother in Arms series. I hate that! It offers nothing great in terms of new funfactor things. WOW, you jump out of plane..The maps are small to! This game is not worth 60.00. What game is lately?!?! Only Bioshock! Games like these offer a stupid 6hr experience. Call of Duty is so much better! REALLY! Play COD 3 instead! This game lacks in depth. Wait for Brothers in Arms, it will be a lot better.
Me Too Shooter
by: coopertex On: 2007-09-12
Medal of Honor Airborne for the Xbox 360 is a WWII First Person Shooter (FPS). I have been a long time fan of the Medal of Honor series ever since I played the first one on the old Playstation system. I even enjoyed the European Assualt title and thought that the fire fights were a lot more intense than the ones in Airborne. Dont get me wrong this is a next gen game, but the matter of fact is that WWII games have been done to death. With so many great titles out there within the same genre, Airborne does not push the concept far enough to win over the competition. You are still fighting on with the same assortment of weapons (pistols, submachine guns, assualt rifles, sniper, bazzooka and a few others) you are still fighting the nazi regime, you are still going into house for close combat and outdoors in the countryside for long range combat. You are still fighting inside trenches and on top of bridges.
In order to bring something new into gameplay the creators of Airborne made the game into "open world" level maps. You begin each mission with a briefing of objectives, weapons selection followed by you jumping off a plane with a parachute. And this is where the open world concept is used; you can land anywhere on the battlefield map and engage the enemy in close combat or snipe them from afar of the conflict. It is not linear like most FPS that force you to go along path to avdance through the level. The way to advance in Airborne is to kill enemy germans in any of the battles taking place at the same time. If you leave an area of battle and head to a different part of the map, you will encounter more enemies and alllied bots engaging in battle.
Since there are mini battles taking place all over the map, this lets you devise a strategy for flanking enemy positions and sometimes even coming up behind them to gun them down. You can also land on roofs of houses and go jumping from one roof to the next while shooting down at the enemy positions on the ground levels. You can pick up ammo and switch to weapons dropped by dead enemies. Although you use the same basic WWII weapons found in most FPS, Airborn lets you upgrade your weapons the more you use it by killing enemies. You can get faster reloads, steady aim, bigger ammo clip and a few surprise attachements.
I know that I will get a lot of flak for this (pun intended), but even with its open world design and upgradeable weapons, MOH Airborne, did not meet my expectations for a next gen title. There are no destructible objects, multiplayer is boring, and the missions do not get my adrenaline pumping up. There is just nothing remarkable about it to justify me purchasing yet another WWII shooter when, Call of Duty is still more intense and immersive than Airborne. And consider the fact the COD is an older title.
Pros:
+open world maps
+excellent controls
+excellent music
+cool weapon upgrades
+ragdoll physics
+detailed statistics and leaderboards
Cons:
-Not as intense as COD
-another WWII shooter
-no vehicles to drive
-boring multiplayer
-weak missions in single player

You begin each mission with a briefing of objectives, weapons selection followed by you jumping off a plane with a parachute. And this is where the open world concept is used; you can land anywhere on the battlefield map and engage the enemy in close combat or snipe them from afar. It is not linear like most FPS that force you to go along path to advance through the level.
Wow...
Medal of Honor: Airborne was supposed to be released over a year ago! After the unsuccessful Rising Sun and European Assult, I honestly was not expecting much from EA Games, though I purchased the game because Im interested in the series.
From the get-go in the plane before the first mission, one notices the superior graphics and attention to historical accuracy and detail. The ability to jump out of the plane and choose where you start the battle is simply awesome. The artificial intelligence is of the highest caliber. The game advertises that you never play the same mission the same way; theyre right. You may land in the same spot twice and find that your enemy has changed position and can flank you. Whats nice about this is youre actually thinking rather than automatically moving through the map shooting helpless opponents.
My only "problem" with this game is that later in playing, one opposes a "Nazi Storm Elite" soldier who is dressed in the black Schutzstaffel uniform, wearing body armor and is walking around with a MG-42 in his hands! While elite troops within the ranks of the S.S., called "Viper Troops", wore armor and were far superior to their Werhmacht counterparts, they become too frequent in the final mission and unfortunately resemble the "bosses" in either Wolfenstein 3D or Medal of Honor: European Assult. However, the satisfaction of overcoming them is quite enjoyable!
This game is terrific! The graphics are unbelievable, music is from Michael Giaochinno from MOH: Frontline, so there is that connection between the two strongest games in the series. I cant reccomend this game high enough. Its a must have!

Much better than expected
I didnt expect much from this game especially after player Stranglehold for the past few days,I thought it might be boring I was thankfully sure wrong.Every battle is intense, the weapon upgrades are really cool that really help add to the game and give you something more to look forward to,I like to use all the weapons trying to get that cool next upgrade that are indeed effective, its a nice surprise from EA while you wait for Halo 3.
Call of Duty still rules the WWII roost
Whew....I played the first 2 levels of MoH: Airborne and I must say, those were the 2 longest hrs of my life. So, EA is stepping into the shoes where Call of Duty has gone so far and so well on the 360 and I must say that my impressions are mixed.
i will keep this brief because most reviews have touched on a lot of key points of the game
1. Graphics - I dont think they are as good as CoD but still as with any other WWII game you know you are in a fight. But its at the point now after seeing games like Gears of War and Stranglehold one has to wonder when will there be more destructable environments? I mean come on...we are 2 years into the next gen and there should not be so many static objects!!
2. As good as any WWII shooter can be...on a decent set up it sounds like there is complete chaos going on around you. Still tho with large explosions, my subwoofer could use a lil more of a workout.
3. Controls - handles pretty well altho I wonder why there is no prone feature.
4. Game design is very innovative. Having the freedom to drop into a zone as opposed to making a linear run from point A to point B increases the amount of thought you have to put into finishing an objective. Pay attention to your briefings because they are no joke. Think you are going to land near your objactive and finish it right away? WRONG. I tried that twice and had my butt handed to me as soon as I landed and I do mean getting beaten and shot at before I could raise my weapons. This idea is a refreshing way to play because you wont complete any one level the same way...also it gives you ways to startegically plan an attack? Having a hard time mounting a frontal assault? Try looking for the back door or try taking the roof...there are more ways than one to take out the enemy. The AI is pretty sharp and they will find ways to take you out and sometimes it seems cheap too but again you wont Rambo thru this game.
My only minuses so far are these:
There are times when you seem to feel like you are completely on your own, this could be a good thing or a bad thing depending...and sometimes when you are fighting with others some of those jokers will step right in front of your aim.
When shooting an enemy, sometimes it seems like you have to empty 1/2 a clip just to kill one soldier...again...this is next gen guys, if I shoot a guy in the arm he should be hurt...leg make him limp..head...he should not get up ever again...but on this game they do...
Just when you think you are done, there is more....this could be a plus or a minus depending on who you are talking to...but as soon as you are done one laundry list of objectives, a new list may pop up tacking on another 1/2 an hr of the level....this could work as this game is rumored to be rather brief.
All in all this game so far is cool, Call of Duty definently has the crown in WWII shooters and its almost sad that this years iteration wont be from that era but that may be a good thing, but if you like WII shooters and need somethig a lot less linear, MoH is worth a look.
Better than I expected
I know a lot of gamers are getting tired of the same old and oft-repeated WW2 shooters. But the criticisms Ive heard about this game hardly seem justified. The graphics are crisp with good frame rates and smooth play. The AI soldiers seem to react in a far more efficient and realistic manner. Also there are some great new wrinkles.
Two new features I love are the character and weapon development. The idea of incorporating character skill development into a WW2 shooter is fantastic, and while things like weapon upgrades arent--of course--very realistic, they add an enjoyable new dimension to the gameplay. Also, parachuting into combat is really cool.
So far, Ive found the control layout to be smooth and efficient--not always a given with this series. Another plus is the far less linear nature of the missions and combat. Instead of simply moving from point A to B and so on, youre generally just given a set of mission objectives and then left to work them out on your own--with far more opportunity for using terrain and flanking options to achieve success.
All in all, a very satisfying purchase and the first true next-gen WW2 shooter.
