Game was great only bad parts are the sound and how short the single player is
A big improvement from Halo 2!     On: 2009-01-07

I purchased this game around Thanksgiving with an open mind. As an avid PC FPS player, the original Halo and Halo 2 dissapointed me, mainly the single player aspect. Halo 3 on the other hand managed to really surprise me. The single player is great! Varied level design, lots of different vehicles, and a good story help break up what used to be a boring trek through levels that all looked the same. The multiplayer aspect is of course, the best. One thing I love is that Bungie supports this game very well and they update the multiplayer play lists every week. Thanks to updates like these, this game will be sitting in your 360 for months and maybe even years!

The reason I gave it 4 stars is because the graphics are a bit disappointing, especially when compared to Call of Duty 4/5. Also the amount of loading in multiplayer compared to the Call of Duty series is long. It really breaks up some of the multiplayer experience when you are waiting and waiting for another game. That being said, these are just minor grievances and the game will most certainly satisfy you.
Call of Duty vs. Halo     On: 2009-01-05

I have them both.
I bought my 360 earlier this year so i never had a predetermined bias of either.
I originally bought Halo 3. The campaign is fun, i enjoy the usage of vehicals and how you can hijack and actually take them out (unlike the tanks in CoD 5). The online can keep you entertained for hours. Yeah the match set up is slow and they need maps, but you can buy them in marketplace.
Call of Duty 4 is also a great game. Its much more realistic. Falling can kill you and the guns actually do damage. However, its a video game, so if being realistic is whats important go for Call of Duty.
Lets not forget Halo 3 is meant to be a Sci-Fi action shooter. All 3 have great online multiplayer, so it really depends what kind of a mood youre in for gaming. Realistic Hardcore Military, or Sci-Fi Action. I will keep switching for how I feel. No one ever said you have to put all of your eggs in one basket. Neither is worse. Theyre just different.
Halo Does it again!     On: 2009-01-04

WOW! A few months was worth the wait!Even though im kind of getting bored of it because it is my only game for my 360. Ive played Halo and Halo 2. Pros and Cons:
Cons:
-Forge Money Buget, i dont like that, beacuse we should have unlimited things and infinate money(Without Glitching).
-Multiplayer Energy sword, since they put a limited charge, it will change online gameplay with it.
Pros:
Good storyline, great graphics, more optioins when creating your own Custom Game.
Halo Forever! Continued     On: 2008-12-31

Microsoft has done it again! Another great game for a great console. Out of all the Halos Id say that Halo 3 is the best. The levels are so freakin awesome! So is the allies, weapons, enemies, etc. etc. There are so many cool weapons and vehicles. For instance, they made another warthog that can hold 5 or 6 marines (they can all shot from it as well!). Also they made a new weapon that can shoot laser and kill a brute in 1 shot! Plus the weapons in Halo and Halo 2 got better. The sub-machine gun in Halo 2 was aweful. When you shot it the weapon started to go up and it wasnt very powerful. Now in Halo 3, when you shoot it, it stays concentrated on your enemy and is alot more powerful. Thats all Im going to tell you. Youll just have to buy it and see what it is like yourself. Trust me you wont be let down! GET IT TODAY!

BEST GAME EVER!!!!!     On: 2008-12-28

Out of all my games i play this one the most BY FAR. The campaign is fun but somewhat short. Online matchmaking is amazingly fun although it may seem VERY cheap after a couple of hours but youll ALWAYS come back to it.

The crown jewel of this game (in my opion) is the forge and theater. Screenshots and videos prevent halo from ever getting boring. Forge gives you the opportunity to expand and express your imagination to the max allowing you to create maps and weopon/object placement. The new map packs allows you to take forge to the next level with platforms, mancannons, and much more. The graphics and controls are wonderful beyond belief and the story continues the previous two games perfectly.

Overall this game deserves FIVE STARS, 10/10, A+, 100 thumbs up, and whatever else describes perfection.
overhyped...multiplayer saved it for me     On: 2008-12-27

I played halo 1 AFTER I played halo 3, and I liked halo 1 much better. It has a more serious tone. In halo 3, the enemies you are fighting sound silly as they talk. I felt almost embarassed as it sounded like I was watching a childish saturday morning cartoon. Halo 1 doesnt have this, and the music is much, much better in halo 1, it gave me goosebumps.

The graphics arent even much of a improvement either. Games like COD 4 make this look stale.

The only reason why I still play this is because its splitscreen online multiplayer. That means a friend of yours can play with you as you battle online with other people. I wish more games supported this.
Halo 2 with some awful parts     On: 2008-12-27

Other than a few new weapons and a couple of new lame vehicles (ATV and hover plane), I really didnt see anything new here. Add in a couple of really bad scenes (like the driving scene at the end) and it really doesnt deserve a four or five star rating. Maybe the online kill other humans multi-player part is what gets it a high rating, but the single or co-op play was disappointing.
Not so great single-player     On: 2008-12-26

For a single-player game, I greatly preferred Grand Theft Auto 4 and Fallout 3. I wonder about people who claim to have played Halo 3 the first time through in 6 hours. It may be possible for someone who has already mastered Halo 1 and 2, but for the rest of us, it is possible to spend an hour or two just trying to get through one scene where you are almost out of ammo with no more laying around and tons of baddies rushing you, or where no amount of hits on an enemy seem to phase it/them and it takes a dozen or more attempts to figure out how to overcome it/them, especially those that require you to hit a particular part of an enemy or to attack it in a certain way.

The worst feature of Halo 3 is the way it saves (or doesnt save). When you die, it reverts back to just before you died, so you might think that it has saved that point, but if you save-quit and restart, it goes back to an earlier point, making you refight the same tough battles. So if you are half way through a difficult mission, pause the game and leave it on if you must quit; otherwise, be prepared to redo the same fights you have just struggled through.

And unlike other games, if you just turn off the Xbox, it does not auto-save, so you end up going back several scenes which you already spent a lot of time (and some luck) beating. Nor does it allow you to save the exact point you are at. Again, it just reverts back to the start of the scene/mission. So dont just turn off the Xbox without saving first.

Frankly, the first time through the game was so hard that I couldnt enjoy it. Im playing for fun, not to have to work so hard nor to take a dozen tries to make it through a scene. It wasnt as bad the second time through because of understanding how things work, but it was no 6-hour walk in the park, either.

Another complaint about Halo 3 is the lack of sound control. Other games allow you to control the volume for music, sound effects, and speech separately, but not H3, so if you want to be able to hear the spoken instructions and hints, you have to put up with even louder weapons fire, explosions, etc., which others in the house may not appreciate. And turning on captions doesnt help that much because not all speech shows up in captions (even with All selectedc), plus a really stupid "feature" is that H3 does not save your captions setting, so you have to manually turn it on every time you turn on the game.

Halo 3 is better than Mass Effect, which spends too much time on talking/reading, and Left4Dead, which is too repetitive, but not as much fun as GTA4, in my opinion.

Halo 3-Best Multiplayer shooter for Xbox 360 (By Far)     On: 2008-12-24

Halo 3 is my favorite game for the 360. Its pretty much the only game I play (and I have QUITE a few others). Do you want to know why? Its because of Halo 3s multi-player, which can be summed up in one word: fantastic. Bungie has created the perfect match-making system, and it works almost flawlessly. The single-player campaign is also a lot of fun, plus, this game racks up TONS of achievement points.
Tour de Force Multiplayer, and Not Much Else     On: 2008-12-23

If you are a fan of Halo, then you probally know about the multiplayer. It is the corner stone of the Halo games. Long after people blew up the first Halo, they were still shooting each other in Blood Gulch.

In that respect, Halo 3 does not disappoint. I cannot praise its Multiplayer enough. Of course it has its flaws, but it is so incredibly fun that you rarely notice them. Sword duels were a stroke of genius. I play a close range game, ive spent full minutes locking blades with one guy until he (or me) made a mistake and died. Great, intricate level designs, ranging from the multi-level ambush frenzy of Blackout, the vast sniper-paradise of Last Resort, and the intimacy of Isolation, every level is well made and fits different game types.

The weapons are equally fun to use. You have your regular assortment of sniper rifles, assualt rifles, laser beams, and a few new things such as the maulers: one handed shot-guns, duel wieldable; and the gravity hammer, a rival for the energy sword in terms of close quarter dominance.

There are very minor problems. You can customize your character with different armors, unlocked by meeting achievements. There are vastly more armors for the Spartans than Elites (i think its a ratio of like 10:1) but it seems there are more Spartan players than Elite players, and what we Elites have are freakin awesome, so thats not a huge problem. Other problems include the balancing of weapons: you can no longer duel wield Needlers, but duel Maulers can rip a person apart at close range with one shots each.

The biggest problems arent with the multiplayer, the problems are with the story, which has consistently been bad. It is incredibly typical sci-fi stuff, which wouldnt be a huge problem if people didnt constantly say its such an incredible story. Humans are apparently the descendants of aliens (Forerunners). Who the hell is writing this? L. Ron Hubbard? You dont have an interesting villian, at all. The Covenant have never been made interesting. I applaud Halo 2 for allowing you to play as the Arbiter and opening an interesting story. Now that the Elites are on your side, so you go back to an unsympathetic, underdeveloped Covenant.

The Phrophet of Truth is little more than a Bond Villian, laughing sinisterly through out the game. You dont have an interesting Brute like Tartarus. You dont get to kill Truth, he dies in a cut scene. For the rest of the game, you fight Gravemind. But mind you, you dont have an epic showdown with a gigantic swarming mass of Flood. You fight a silver ball who shoots laser beams at you. Im not kidding.

Half-Life 2 took the Earth in ruins thing and did it incredible well. You saw first hand the destruction that the invaders had caused and the brave humans who resisted. Playing through this, you never get the sense that Earth is really in peril. We may get more of a glimpse at a ravage Earth in Halo: Recon coming out Fall 09, but why should we have to shell out sixty more dollars for the rest of the story? Not to mention the length, playing through normal I beat it in about six hours. Heroic is a bit harder, but it just a matter of ten hours. Beating it on Legendary, you get a little easter egg which is not worth the time taken.

If you like Multiplayer, this game is second to none. Ive spent hours online fighting or at my friends house playing teams. Its fast paced mayhem or slow and steady sniping. Every map is different, however slightly. But until Halo starts investing in its storyline and campaign, i will not give them the coveted 5 star ranking.
For Kids Only     On: 2008-12-23

The Halo series is a fun group of games if you are 13 or younger. I played the first one and quit after about a third of the way through it. The enemies just look stupid, and it is all very childish in that way. I got Halo 3 because I wanted to give it another shot. While it looks really nice and polished, it still just doesnt do it for me. The multiplayer has so many different game types that you spend half of your time in the lobby. The positives are that the storyline is interesting, and it allows two players for everything. Being able to play online with a friend sitting next to you is a nice feature. I cant believe more games dont have that ability. If you are a member of some thing where you can rent games and not incur late fees, then I recommend just renting this game for a while. Otherwise wait and buy a used version. If youre a teenager or younger, buy this game.

I mean ... do I really need to review this? It's Halo 3 for goodness sakes!     On: 2008-12-10

What to say about Halo 3 that hasnt been said by a million people already? Well, it looks awesome in 1080p on an HD tv! I imagine not many people have played it that way.

Lets see, what else? You can play with up to 8 people in the campaign via co-op, but they all have to have Live Gold accounts, because you can only split screen with 2 people. If you want to go over 2, then you have to get more than 1 copy of the game, and you have to do it via Live. That is my only major complaint about the game, what happened to 4 player split screen, and the very freaking least? This was a money making decision, pure and simple. Force more people to buy copies of the game, if they want to do co-op. Not that people werent going to buy it anyway, but still.

Playing it online against strangers on Live is not that much fun for 2 reasons:
1.) the screaming/racist/idiots on Live -- if you are going to play online, dont bother with the headset with this game.
2.) the legions of Halo freaks out there who seem to do nothing but play and study this game, and can kill you in a split second when you match against them. Dont bother with online play, unless you are one of them.

But, overall, the game and story is awesome, and you will greatly like this game -- so long as you like 1st person shooters anyway.
Good. But not perfect. Still very fun though.     On: 2008-12-10

The Best Xbox 360 Game to Date     On: 2008-11-29

The most awesome game ever created for the Xbox 360 platform. The story mode is phenominal allowing up to 4 players to experience it together and the online gaming in xbox live takes this game to where no other can match it.
What Halo 2 should've been     On: 2008-11-26

Halo 3 does nothing new, but does it well. Every feature - from the weapon balance, to the multiplayer matchmaking - is solidly built. The visuals, while not truly extraordinary, are still delightful. The sound is great, and the musical score - fantastic.

The problem with Halo 3 though, once you get past the gimmicky bells and whistles, is that it failed to provide much new. By far the most exciting feature in the fame is the Forge map editor. Beyond that, however, the game is just an upgrade to Halo 2.

Still, its a ton of fun to play, and nicely concludes the Halo storyline. Id definitely suggest the game to anybody else.

Halo is always fun....atleast multiplayer :)     On: 2008-11-23

What can I say Halo is always fun and especially its multiplayer I dont have much too say because everyone that wanted this game has it but if you are on the fence in purchasing it, do not hesitate it is a fun co op game in the story mode and also online is just super fun I actually think its on par with call of duty 4 and slighty below warhawk on ps3 wich is my favorite online game.

pros
multiplayer
control
map editor

cons
story
graphics
not as good as halo 2

Cheers :)

Mediocre Campaign, Much better online     On: 2008-11-19

First of all, I was never a huge Halo fan. Could be for many reasons (I never had an XboX, I dont consider this Science fiction, wasnt good at First person shooters, etc.) In fact I was adamantly against it.

I think I warmed up a bit to it, when I started playing it a bit more and got a feel for it. However, when I got a 360, my friend brought over Halo 3, and showed me online multiplayer. Thats what hooked me in. If you like playing online, this is a must buy. Now I didnt buy the legendary edition or anything like that, just spent $25 and bought the regular one used. By far it is one of the games I play the most, strictly for the online play.

What else I like about this is the Forge and Theater. In Forge, you can edit maps to creat new obstacles, and then share them online when playing with a group. Same goes for theater, in which you can go back through past games and take screen shots or video clips of any victories/cool stuff that happened and upload those onto you file share as well. Same goes for game variants. There are a lot of options to vary up the online experience.

There are drawbacks, most of which you have little to no control over. There will be a system lag at times, and you cant really do anything about the other players online. Remember this is the internet, and most people use it to slander others annonymously. For those that talk trash, there are muting options and you have the option to boot a player that is guilty of team killing, although youll have to assess if it was an accident or not. Pass that, you have to ignore a lot of the small stuff.

All in all, the online play is what makes this game good, not really the story (in my opinion).
A real gem and a must have!     On: 2008-11-17

Halo 3, the amazingly highly anticipated sequel to the highly successful and critically acclaimed Halo franchise with the third and final installment. Easily one of the best games out with taking full advantage of the power of Xbox 360, Halo 3 expands on everything that has made the franchise great, adding a wealth of technical and gameplay advancements. The game design has evolved with next-generation, high-definition visuals; enhanced AI; an advanced real-time lighting engine; and, of course, new weapons, characters, and challenges. Halo 3 promised an unparalleled first-person shooter experience and, in the end, we got just that with the most compelling and engrossing story in the franchises history. Last, but certainly not least, Halo 3 builds upon the unique social multiplayer experience and innovative, evolving online gameplay of Halo 2.

Halo 3 is phenomenal and is probably the best game available on the console with loads of replay ability and plenty of entertainment. If for some reason you havent brought this game yet, there is something seriously wrong with you.

The item was sent quick even to an APO, and it was in above standard condition. Thank you
Doesn't 'raise' the bar, but resets it for the 360.     On: 2008-10-21

I score games based on 8 categories with varying weights -- Halo 3 gets an 85%% (my highest so far).

I found the campaign a little lacking and the story failed to impress, glutted as we gamers are with epic storylines that fail to do anything but justify the continuous shooting and blowing things up...

The graphics, sound, and controls are great but nothing ground-breaking. The addition of the FORGE feature adds a lot of potential but its a bit tedious for my tastes. The real gem is the multiplayer, which really shines when you have a group of friends to team up with.

On the merits of its multiplayer I have to give this game 5 stars instead of the 3 or 4 itd otherwise get. This is Halo for Xbox 360 -- its the standard by which all other console FPS titles will be judged for a long time (with GoW and CoD series serving as the casual / hardcore flavors of Halos middlin stance).
Halo 3, an unbelievable experience!     On: 2008-10-19

I actually bought this as a replacement for my original copy and was ecstatic to receive this in the mail (I actually was, weird huh?). For those of you who have never heard of the best FPS (First person shooter) game ever created to the XBOX 360 console, the graphics are amazing compared to the first two games and this game has many additional objectives other than just beating the game. Finding things like skulls (to unlock special armor) dramatically increase the games replay value.
One of the best abilities of this game that made it worth buying twice for me is my online multiplayer addiction. People of all skill levels play together, sometimes based on skill, sometime not (players choice), I made friends online and invited my personal friends to join as well,

this game is an easy A+++!

this game is sweet. So mutch to do.Its kinda bloodey wich is cool.I like it so much.
the wepons are new and specail compared to some shooters.
Accept it     On: 2008-10-16

Some people might say that Halo 3 is the same as halo 2 and 1. While it might be based around the same story line, the graphics are pleasant, and gameplay is enjoyable. It has high replay value IMO, something very few games have nowadays. It may not be original, but it doesnt have to be whenn it is this successful.
Very Good Game     On: 2008-10-09

The online in this game is terrific, due to the fact that there is minimal if no lag. Definitely worth the money.
A Great and fun multiplayer but campaign is alittle dissapointment.     On: 2008-10-09

It seems like the shortest(played about 6 hours)campaign of the three. It may be the same as the others but i expected it to be alittle bit longer that the first two. The story was not as epic and heartpounding as i expected from ending the Halo story. Everyones favorite A.I. lady Cortana isnt in it much so that was a letdown for me anyway. All in all Halo 3 is still one the best FPS of all time. Always remeber the heros of the Great War
Over all letdown     On: 2008-10-06

I was so excited about getting this game like a lot of other people since I purchased my xbox 360 short while after release I waited for this game. Talk about let down this is just a nicer looking Halo 2.
Best 360 game     On: 2008-10-03

The best game out for 360. Halo 3 campaign is good and all, but its the multiplayer that counts. The multiplayer rocks! Unlike COD 4 is takes skill and a fun ranking system will make you want to keep playing. A MUST MUST MUST buy for any 360 owner I dont care who you are if you gota 360 you buy this game
If you own a 360 don't pass this one up     On: 2008-09-30

One of the best games the xbox 360 has to offer. Its online multiplayer is the best available to date.
Halo 3 and it's Legion of Nerds     On: 2008-09-27

If you hadnt heard of this game, dont fear! Theres a legion of nerds backing this game up with delicious steamy reviews. Its a prime title for Xbox 360 and as being a prime title, it comes with so much. First off, the campaign is the single reason that most people buy Halo 3, it is the continuation of the Halo 2 cliff hanger that made most of us throw our controllers at the TV and left us cursing. This single player experience is the best because its story never stops and does not take a break. Its always focused between the two main characters and never breaking them as they did in Halo 2. With scoring game system and 4 player co-op, skulls, and even the occasional Easter egg makes this single player experience has a lot of replay value. Now with its award winning multiplayer, this game will have you playing online just to get that level fifty. With armor unlockables, and EXP this just makes multiplayer experience even more. Another is forge and with online sharing of maps, you never get bored downloading the latest created maps.

It is time to save the universe--AGAIN!     On: 2008-09-24

If I had to evaluate Halo3 just on Campaign mode then it would be 2 stars. I dont think anyone buys games anymore for how well they do single player play. Now it is all about multiplayer.

Halo3, multiplayer, introduces so many awesome new things that it is really difficult to list them all. The standard gameplay if you just jump into matchmaking has not, so far, been completely dominated by the sniper rifle. I dont think Ive been sniped more than a few times in several hours of gameplay. That is a HUGE departure from Halo2 where you could be virtually guaranteed getting sniped several times per game.

Personally i think it is too easy to shoot players off the mongoose but I suppose everyone has their own preference. Im just glad that the sniper rifle seems to have been leveled out--it had completely overwhelmed nearly every map on Halo2.

The addition of the Forge and of Theater are almost too good to believe. Theater, with some practice, lets you make VERY high quality movies of the action in your past several games. You can do all kinds of neat tricks with this. The main limitation is that I dont currently see a way to export video off Live and on to the computer. I know people can do it but it isnt a built-in function.

Overall, really impressed. Nice work Bungie.

Game purchased for my son...it was a long wanted game so must be okay. He gave it the five stars.
Awesome Game     On: 2008-09-08

I am a Halo fan and i thought Halo 2 could not be beaten. I was right, in some ways. First off, Halo 3 has a good story mode, but not as good as Halo 2. Halo 3 does however have a better multiplayer. For example Halo 3 has more maps and they are more fun. Also Halo 3 has forge. Forge is heck of fun because you can customize your own maps. You have never been able to do that on any previous Halo games. This game is a lot of money, but it is worth every cent.

Multiplayer- 5 stars

Story Mode- 4 stars

Fun- 5 stars

Overall- Unbeatable
Cleans up Halo 2's mistakes     On: 2008-09-02

I loved Halo 2s co-op features, but I thought that the missions were terrible! The missions where you were elites were just agony! But Halo 3 is such a large step up in TONS of way, such as,the co-op maps are a lot more fun, complex, and just plain better than Halo 2,the missions are so much better I cant name all of the improvements, but I will anyway. My favorite thing about co-op missions is to ride in a vehicle,my brother drives, while I operate the turret and wipe out all enemies in our path.I beat the game on all levels of difficulty and still havent gotten tired of the game,I play it every time I go down to my neighbors house(which is quite often)and we enjoy every minute of it,whether it be shotguns, energy swords,or rocket launcher(all of which are my favorites)its always a blast.Halo 3 is my favorite Xbox 360 game and I cant wait till Halo Wars comes out(I love RPGs)(role playing games).

maybe its just me, but i found halo 3 to be a little cheesey and weird. keep in mind that i have not played the other 2. alot of the weapons were lame and half the time, i couldnt see where i was in the game. much of it is darkly lit or hard to see. overall, there are better shoot-em-up games out there.
HALO 3     On: 2008-08-31

I hear a lot of people saying call of duty 4 is better than halo 3, halo 3 is better than call of duty 4, etc, etc. They are both excellent games, and compliment each other. After playing the realism of cod4 its nice to switch back to the low gravity, energy shield world of halo3. I also think the online play of halo3 is just that much more fun because you end up playing with more random people, who seem to talk more.
I don't understand the hype     On: 2008-08-29

Ok i didnt have the first xbox so when I got my 360 I went out and bought
halo 1&2 because i knew 3 was coming soon. I just got bored with 1 and 2 still i gave this game benefit of the doubt and rent it and beat it, mind you I own 1&2 own still havent beat them and it not because this game is fun but because its really short. now the best thing about this game is the online play HANDS DOWN. But after 200 rounds of death match it can get old. the story not that epic as if it was touch by the hands of the maker, so why the hype.the vehicles in all this games handle so horribliy this is how id imagine a cat on roller skates would handle like. and the two weapons at a time i cant stand its a video games it suppose to be unrealalistic and be sides that your shootings aliens for petes sake. And yes ive actually people make the agruement "the 2 weapons thing is the games way of being realalistic, you couldnt carry 6 or 7 weapon could you?" if ive offended sorry but id rather be playing gears of war.
Wonderful Value     On: 2008-08-25

There are few games truly worth their 60 dollar price tags, and this is one of them. With a compelling campaign, an endless variety of multiplayer modes, the forge, and the theater, there is always something to do in Halo 3.
Huge let down     On: 2008-08-25

I honestly thought that Halo 3 would make me a believer, but it didnt. I played the first one and hated it. Played the second one and hated it; then I played the third installment and hated it even more. The campaign sucks. It is incredibly easy to pass and online sucks even more. I really dont see what people talk about. I dont see the magic. The guns feel weak and toy like. Perhaps what annoys me the most are the 12 year old kids that skip school to play. Rented and try it out. You might like it more than I did.
awesome game!     On: 2008-08-24

Let me start by saying that Im 27 and relatively a newcomer to the next gen gaming consoles. After being burned by the dreamcast and the nintendo 64, I became jaded with the whole gaming thing. It felt like nothing could recapture those days when I would spend hours playing Mike Tysons punchount on the NES and then Street fighter on the SNES.

Then along came the Xbox. However, it HALO 3 that salvaged any shred of goodwill I had towards the gaming industry. When I thought I could never feel engaged/enthralled with a game, HALO 3 smacked me across the face for ever thinking that game consoles/designers had sold us - the consumers - out.

To put it simply, having HALO 3 with an xbox live account may bring you closer to feeling how a crackhead must feel when he wants crack. This game has it all. Im in law school right now. After marathon reading sessions, I start to get tired. When this happens, I pop in HALO 3 and bust out a couple of matches. My adrenaline rises through the roof and all of sudden Im WIDE AWAKE. This game is that good.
Not Perfection, But Still Worth the Price Tag     On: 2008-08-22

Before you buy this game, I strongly suggest you at least play through Halo 2. It helps the dreadfully short campaign become more exciting. Sort of a "lets finish the job" feeling.

This game doesnt hold a lot when it comes to campaign mode. The easy difficulty is hilarious, the medium difficulty is kind of boring, heroic is inconsistent, and legendary is, well, pretty hard. When I say inconsistent, Im referring to the enemy AI. At times it can be strangely easy but at other times its impossible.

The story is useless if you havent played the previous installments of Halo. The cut scenes and levels are still very pretty, but the characters are still generic. The Flood is an annoyance factor, but it provides for a challenge in certain levels.

Without the multilayer this game would be a major let down. The online multilayer can be a very enjoyable experience. I dislike the fact that everything is searched instead of allowing you to pick and choose displayed games, but it does give you the chance to play with some cool people and try new game variants.

The system still has a few bugs, though. I occasionally get the "incompatible network" error displayed when I try to play with certain people (Ive got an open network connection). You basically have to download the Heroic Map Pack if you want to play every game possible. Leveling up is very annoying, but you do get a feeling of accomplishment once you start to move up.

I recommend this game to everyone unless you havent enjoyed the previous games. Its nothing new, but its amazingly fun. Its a great way to get introduced to the first person shooter genre. Still not the best game in the world, but fun.

hands down the best game on the 360. and i know because i play it every single day

Warming Up     On: 2008-08-15

I wasnt a very big fan of the earlier Halo games, but my brother pestered me into buying this for him. Its actually more interesting than I thought it would be. Game play isnt too difficult and the graphics are pretty intense. Its definitely easy to say that Im warming up to the series.
Master Chief Comes Full Circle     On: 2008-08-14

There is no reason to state the amount of hype attached to this game, so Im not going to. Let me say Ive hardly ever seen a game that lived up to its hype fully. Many of the greatest games were sequels in an already great game series. The third and final installment of Halo (or so Bungie says) encompasses everything the game developers were looking to add to the second one. And in my opinion, they did everything very well. Here is a short mach up of the games main parts:

Gameplay 9 of 10: The mechanics feel very good and a lot of the game resembles Halo: Combat Evolved. Everything is intuitive, no drastic changes but many small beneficial additions. Many of the serious physics problems from Halo 2 were addressed.

Graphics 8 of 10: Very good visuals stand out even form other next generation games. Lighting and reflection is greatly superior to many other current games, weapons look more realistic than anything in the game. Much more time was spent on the textures and close up visuals. Colors are vibrant, everything has sharp and crisp lines as long as you have HD or I prefer S-video (because Im lame and have a CRT)

Controls 8 of 10: Controls take an evolutionary step, with only a couple of buttons moved out of necessity for the special items. The basics are the same as first and second game and as always have little to no learning curve. There are more options on the personalization of the controls now. In my opinion Halo 3 has the best controls for a shooter game and has been copied before.

Music / Sound Effects 7 of 10: The music is just brilliantly done with a full orchestra was added and the original soundtrack has been seriously enhanced and expanded by Martin ODonnell and Michael Salvatori (the composers for all three games). With an orchestra in the background, the game just feels more epic and gives a human quality to the story. The sound effects on the other hand are nothing new or really better than ok, even with the volume way up it is hard to get the full experience. Many of the weapons seem to be toned down literally.

Weapons 8 of 10: Many, many weapons were added. Here is a full list: http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Weapons There are probably more weapons in this game than the first two combined. Unfortunately many go by the wayside because of there ineffectiveness against enemies-especially on multiplayer. If you remember those energy shields you always see the covenant have and you always wished you had one, Halo 3 gives you the option along with a bunch of other new special items: energy drains, deployable cover, trip mines, bubble shields, flares, invincibility, incendiary grenades and a few more. The bubble shield is quite impressive-throw this out and a large sphere will encapsulate you and keep out any and all weapons fire including explosives. However, anyone can walk in.

Vehicles 8 of 10: a very well done fleet of both human, covenant and brute vehicles, quite a few new vehicles on every side along with mostly improved versions of the old ones. There are multiple versions of the Warthog. A new bunch of Brute vehicles such as the chopper enter the fray. And if you hadnt guessed, the Scarab is back. In fact youll get to destroy four within the game. Phantoms are now destroyable. The tank now houses a separate gunner for the machine gun while some speed is added and evens out the slower rate of fire.
A full list of the vehicles: http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Vehicles

Story 6 of 10: I must say my views on the plot surrounding Halo 3 are blurry. Ive played through the game a few times now and cannot understand where it is going. It seems to be overly complex without explain much. The story centers around the Master Chief losing Cortana. About halfway through I really lost interest in what was going on with Gravemind and the Flood and said forget it. Maybe a primer should have come with the game or it did and I failed to read it. Honestly, if someone can give me a synopsis of the storyline Id really appreciate it. However, the last few levels really pay tribute to the original Halo and gave me a nostalgic feeling. In fact the last level is called Halo and very closed resembles a level from Halo named "Escape from the Control Room" (I believe).

Multiplayer 6 of 10: And now for the thing that made Halo famous. Multiplayer has to be separated into two distinct parts: the gameplay and the matchmaking system. Lets discuss the bad first. Quite obviously the matchmaking system....which can be livable at best. So the process goes:
1) Go to the matchmaking lobby (lets say you have a guest).
2) Click on your favorite type of game (mine is social slayer).
3) Wait until the system finds people within your skill range, ok.
4) Then you get about half the players needed.
5) Then you wait some more and maybe youll lose the search and have to wait to find another set of people, maybe you get all the people-awesome.
6) Load the map and you actually get to vote to NOT play the map.

Wait are you serious? I just waited like 10 minutes to get these people to play against and were going to have to possibly wait to load a map? Half of the time, the map gets vetoed. Crap. So now you could be 5-10 minutes into waiting before you even load the map youre going to play. Oh yeah, by the way you get stuck with whatever map and game they give you the second time. I dont know why the developers thought this was a good setup. Ideas for improvement: Instead of vetoing a map, why not have a list of acceptable maps and let people vote on which TO play. Matchmaking system is overly complex for unranked games, simplify so people can play more quickly.

Multiplayer combat is really very good. Physics are immensely improved from Halo 2 Everything behaves just as it would in the campaign. Most of the maps are well designed. Many old maps were brought back with visual improvements: Cold Storage, Valhalla (Blood Gulch variant back for a third time), Hang `em High comes back. A really impressive array of game types and number of maps makes multiplayer quite amazing. One gripe-Construct is the worst map in all three Halo games.

Conclusion
A very well thought out and truly fun game-which is something lacking in these next gen games. "Over-realism" is not fun. Videogames are meant provide an escape. Halo has this in spades. A genetically enhanced super soldier that fights aliens in a half ton cybernetic suit of armor-brilliant. And you get to play as him. Overall this game is the best Halo for your money. If you own an Xbox 360 I wouldnt think twice about purchasing this.

Great Game Overall, Halo 4? Halo Movie?     On: 2008-08-09

Halo 3 was a great game and has a great multiplayer experience but does the legendary ending mean halo 4, a new book, expansion, or even a movie, but the campaign was awesome and was very fun so i give it 5 stars
Fun game overall     On: 2008-08-07

Its not as good as people were expecting but thats because of all the hype, its a fun game, the single player mode will keep you busy for awhile but multipalyer can provide hundreds of hours of fun. Even if you dont like shooters much its a great game.
Best multiplayer for the 360     On: 2008-08-05

The whole game is awesome but the multiplayer is the best for the 360 I feel because of the all the different game types and the fact that you can make your own maps from scratch which is one of the coolest features of the game.
COD4 is much better. Pick it up instead.     On: 2008-07-31

I was not too impressed with this game after the dust settled. I havent touched it once since I got COD4. Honestly if I compare this to COD4 I would say halo loses on all fronts fun, online, graphics. I just fell for all the hype of halo and I liked the first one, this one is a lot better than part 2 though.
A Masterpiece!!!     On: 2008-07-29

Halo 3 is an awesome game. The captivating story continues on and is better than ever. Graphics are beautiful, gameplay is smooth and responsive, and Bungie outdid themselves with new features like Forge and the ability to watch your multiplayer matches after they are over. I would advise any person who owns an Xbox 360 to BUY THIS GAME!!! It is well worth the money...
GREAT GAME     On: 2008-07-28

Its Halo 3, come on now! Product came new and in the plasctic. No scratches and it works great.
Halo 3     On: 2008-07-25

This is not that much of an improvement from the other Halos to me, its the same old thing. This is not at all a story driven game its just all out crap, although it may have good graphics (if you call that pompous, delusional nerds idea of "realism" good graphics or even close to just imitating real life) and an exciting live mode its just not creative. You could take every cliche for the past fifty years and stir it into a gray paste to lather on the faces of the brain-dead hordes of morons that worship this game and it would be more beneficial for their poor, warped minds than to have them play this game. It sucks.

An actual quote from a frequent player of this abominable franchise; "I-LOVE-HALO... MUST-PLAY-HALO... I-STILL-HAVE-BRAIN-CELLS!!! MUST-REMEDY-AND-PLAY-HALO!!!" And just like the others of his kind and the legion of air-headed preteen girls sucked into the Hannah Montana vortex, his body, which would not yield to slavery like his mind had, promptly picked up the closest blunt object to himself and bashed his brains out...
Great, but not superb.     On: 2008-07-24

Much akin to the previous installments, Halo 3 offers an excellent story, and an enjoyable single player experience. The mulitplayer aspect of the game, whether it takes place in the same room, or on Xbox Live, is where the game often shines brightest. There are many maps from which to choose, and a vast array of variables to create a unique experience every time you pick up the controller.

The game is an overall improvement over Halo 2. The single player mode has been lengthened, and the multiplayer has been deepened.

While not perfect, it is still a must-own for the Xbox 360.
halo3     On: 2008-07-14

Once again Bungie has created an amazing game. The campaign mode is much better in this installment then in Halo 2. The multiplayer mode rocks as always. There are some great maps in this version. File sharing and the Halo theater are great additions. If you are a halo fan, this game is a must.
Halo 3- It's not the Best, but what is?     On: 2008-07-08

(This is my dads account on here, not mine, still dont have a credit card =P.)

This game has been criticized by some, loved by many, and accepted by the gaming community. Then why are there all these bad reviews?

1. Graphics: 9/10
I am sick and tired of hearing people say that this games graphics are horrible, or bad compared to other games. So what? Some say that its just slight improvment over Halo 2. If you say that, please, get your old xbox and a second tv out and look at the ddifference. It is phenomenal. So is the lighting and overall look at the game. Sure, if Bungie had released a month later due to more graphical improvements, but hey, its not a bad looking game.

2. Sound: 10/10
The Sound of this game is one of its biggest strong points. Almost everything that happens has a unique and wonderfully realistic sound in it. From the battle cries to the sounds of gunfire, this is amazing. And the soundtrack of the game is also incredibly good, setting the mood just right. I like how Bungie made it so everything you hear is real time, of real conflicts happenning somewhere in the game.

3. Gameplay: 9.5/10
I hate whenever people compare this to the original Halos gameplay and say it is crap. This game retains the same basic Halo gameplay, just with newer features. Gameplay is solid and versatile. The vehicles I found incredibly amazing to drive and shoot, and the weapons are perfectly balanced out. Everything feels just right for this finale of a series. And instead of just menial gameplay modes such as capture the flag and deathmatch, like COD4(Im probably gonna get a lot of bull crap from this, but Halo 3 has way more flexibility) Halo 3 expands its multiplayer by adding many gametypes such as Oddball and Infection. Then, you can tweak the gamemodes to make it even more fun. Forge is also one of the best things in this game also. Create your own map, then share it with the Gaming World as whole. Theater is also cool, as you can see just how awesome that kill you ade was or whatever you want to do.

4. Story: 8/10
This is Halo 3s weak point. Halo 2 added an overwhelming number of characters and plots that confused players. Halo 3 took Halo 2s horrible eding and twisted everything up nicely into a neat finale.

5. Multiplayer: 10/10
This is everything Halo 3 is about. Halo 3s multiplayer is better than anything else I have played. Even when compared to Call of Duty 4, there is almost nothing that compares to it, besides World of Warcraft. I have spent over 1000 hours playing and have not considered it old. If you have Xbox Live, this game is a must have.

Great Addition To The Series!     On: 2008-07-08

Being a big fan and avid player of the Halo series since its first release in 2001, I was really excited before the release of Halo 3. This game is ridiculously good in the single player and multiplayer but has some flaws.

The graphics in Halo blow the other two out of the water. The scenery, the look of the environments, and the character models, the gun models, explosions and amount of things on the screen at once make Halo 3 great when it comes to graphics. I didnt really find any flaws graphic wise.

The sound in this game is of course good once again. The sound in Halo 1 and 2 were both great, and they came correct once again in part 3. Also didnt find no flaws here.

The controls in H3 are very very easy to learn. If you have played Halo 1 and 2, you will have no problem what so ever learning this game. Only difference is using the right bumper instead of the button "x". You use the right bumper to reload, and enter/exit vehicles etc. Besides that, easy.

The amount of features in this game is really good. The single player has better and more fun levels. The enemies are smarter, and usually a mix of the covenant and brutes while fighting. Another good feature is being able to play the campaign with 4 people total, so for people that want to beat the game on Legendary, this can be done with ease :-) and also makes it more fun. The single player has a decent length and is basically comparable to Halo 1/2 in how long it is.

The multiplayer is of course where Halo 3 shines! The maps are great, some are mediocre, and Bungie has already released 2 map packs. Just like in Halo 2, there is a number rank, up to 50. But this time in Halo 3, you get army like rankings which require you to get to a certain "number rank" before getting the tag. There is Recruit, Apprentice, Private, Corporal, Sergeant, Gunnery Sergeant. To get those rankings I just listed you have to get EXP, which stands for experience, each time you win, you gain 1 exp point! Next rankings are Lieutenant(Lvl 10), Captain(Lvl 20), Major(Lvl 30), Commander(Lvl 35), Colonel(Lvl 40), Brigadier(Lvl 45), General(Lvl 50). So I basically thought this ranking system they added is cool, and adds more to the multiplayer.

Some of the flaws in this game come from the multiplayer of course. One thing I found that happened quite often, is when Im sniping, I will hit a person, and it will show blood come out, but they are still at full shields/health. This has also happened after sniping them in the head which is very odd. Also, when there is lag in the games, some ridiculous and odd things can happen. Another flaw, is when using the swords. I have had a few times when Id fly at someone with the sword connect with them and hit them perfectly, and it doesnt bring theyre shields down one bit.

So overall, is Halo 3 with the buy? Of course it is, the few flaws it has doesnt bring the game back too much. Youll have fun on the multiplayer for sure. Pick this up!
Its all right     On: 2008-07-07

In my opionon the game is not all that good . Its is a big let down for those who waited at the doors for it to come out. I mean people who have played Halo2 didnt really miss anything cause everything is the same. Except the stages suck and online is full of five year olds cussing thier mothes off.And achievments are so easy thats the only reason i played it for a week.
Beautiful Disappointment     On: 2008-07-03

Ive played about 1,000 matches of Halo 3 on Xbox live. The game looks great and the graphics are some of the best Ive seen. The game can be fun at times, but it is incredibly frustrating. The weapons are amazingly inconsistent-sometimes one shot will kill you and sometimes 12 will not. You can review your deaths during a match on the theater mode and you will be simply astounded with how arbitrary the weapons damages are. Id recommend buying something else.
Excellent fps     On: 2008-06-27

If you like first-person-shooters at all, you will very likely find something to enjoy. Great action, solid story, pretty graphics, enthusiastic and creative community (well, there are of course some jerks mixed in), etc. Worth trying if it sounds intriguing.
Single player campaign review     On: 2008-06-26

Basically, if you played Halo 2, then youve experience the majority of the gameplay in 3. Some levels you fight on foot, others you fight in vehicles, but the layout is too similar to Halo 2, where youd swear they just took the same design and changed the scenery. Graphics are slightly better but wont blow you away. With all the progress that has been made in FPSs, this one seems a little stale. I know people mainly play it for multiplayer so their experience is probably heightened, but for those who just play it solo, be sure to rent this first.
Halo 3 - Great game or the greatest game?     On: 2008-06-15

Halo 3 brings us back to the journey of Master Chief and the human races fight for survival. The story is compelling. The game dynamics are a great mix of "tried and true" and fresh methods. The online xbox live multiplayer will keep you coming back for months perhaps even years. Everyone should play this game at least once. Chances are, if you do, you will not be able to stop.
I wana play Halo 3     On: 2008-06-09

Hi,

I really wana get Halo 3 but Im nearly 14 and my mom says that since its a mature game im never gonna get it to play. I think though that if I get people to agree that a very close to 14 year old can play Halo 3 please say yes to this and say the review. I am very grateful for you reading this as I could need nearly 50 people to agree for my Mom to let me but thank you for your time.

Future Halo 3 Player.....Maybe
run of the mill     On: 2008-06-05

halo is by no means a bad game, its simply just run of the mill. basically its a ww2 game with an aliens theme. If your a sci-fi lover than this is for you but i like realism a lot and the idea of a whole clip to kill an alien doesnt float my boat. on the bright side this is the best executed multiplayer on the 360, but when you dont like the game execution means nothing. this is a good game but if you like realism rent it before you buy it if your a sci fi addict than why arent you playing this already?
Halo 3 Lived Up to the Hype     On: 2008-06-05

With the long wait and many expecting fans, Halo 3 made a splash; An even bigger splash than Halo 2.
Graphically, Halo 3 is much better then Halo 2, and the gameplay is a little more realistic.

When handling the BR and Sniper, there isnt as much magnetism as there is in Halo 2, where it would pretty much move your retical to your opponents head.
It takes more brains to win at halo 3 when in combat, because there arent as many glitches(Ex: Double shotting with the BR by button mashing in Halo 2).

The Campaign was much shorter then in Halo 2, which is a sigh of relief, but finishes the story nicely. The Multiplayer is where the real fun comes in, though it is a lot of fun to party up with a bunch of friends and play the campaign as well.

A nice feature that the game now has is that when playing on Xbox live, you can narrow down your search for matches. You can choose from looking for a good connection, those of your own language, those near your level, and a couple of others. The way that the good connection option enhances your gameplay is that it cuts down on the oh-so notorious rep that Halo 2 had for being laggy, and allows your games to be more fair.

Halo 2 may still be more fun for LAN parties, but Halo 3 takes a step toward a more serious tone: Skill.
halo 3     On: 2008-06-04

Many people liked this game. i myself didnt see the attraction. i thought the graphics were average at best. probably should have been put out on ps3 for better graphics. that said, if you are a big 1st person shooter fan, which im not, then you should be satisfied with this game because it did have a fair amount of action
Great to play online     On: 2008-06-04

The campaign is good to end the trilogy nothing relevant and for me is very addictive playing online (one wolves, team slayer, doubles, etc) because I like a lot this kind of games (Unreal tournament, Quake, CoD4 etc). If you like shooting, get it.

Short solo game     On: 2008-05-30

I suppose Halo3 is a good multiplayer game, but I bought it (mainly because it was on sale) for the solo content. In that respect is is lacking.

* The solo game is short, I finished it in less than a week.
* The goals are confusing at times, without enough info to understand what they want...you end up guessing a lot.
* No map? You have all this high tech armor but no map of your location?
* The graphics are ok, but no better than Unreal Tournament II.

There is the rub. This game wasnt as entertaining as the old Unreal Tournament, and the graphics werent any better.

If you want team based multi-player, this is probably a good game. Otherwise, it is mostly just over-hyped.
Great game for Hotseat too!     On: 2008-05-20

I play this game with some buddies when we get together. It is a lot of fun, but it helps if you are all the same skill level. This is a definite improvement over the second game.

Also, as pertaining to the First Person Shooter market in general, Halo 3 is much less "gritty" and realistic. I enjoy this aspect.
wHEN THE tough get rough, you must pull out the stuff     On: 2008-05-18

Halo 3 is a great single player experience. The Story is captivating. The enemy ai is entertaining. The scenery is beautiful.
The multi-player is fun. Just about everyone that plays halo 3 online is pretty darn good right now. So its very competitive, be ready for a challenge if you are playing this game for the first time. A lot of map to pick from.

They keep getting worse...     On: 2008-05-16

The first halo was amazing, the second halo was good, and now halo 3. Halo 3 is way too overhyped in my opinion, its not really any different than halo 2. You can use new items, and thats about it. the graphics are pretty good, but definetely not the best. If you were unimpressed by the lack of innovation in Halo 2, youll be even more disappointed in H3.
What's in a name? Halo, by any other word, wouldn't make a dent in the gaming world.     On: 2008-05-08

We all know what Halo is. Its the 2nd most popular video game of all time. Everyone knows who Master Cheif is, and that Halo had one of the best multiplayers ever. Yet Halo 2 disappointed the entire gaming nation, would Halo 3 be doomed to the same fate?

Graphics- 6/10. Ok, ok. I know it has been a good 9 months since Halo came out, so it is unfair to hold it to the standards of games that just came out. But compared to other games that came out even before Halo 3, it still looks dated graphically. BioShock, Gears of War, and Oblivion all blow Halos graphics out of the water. Lighting is used pretty well, and the motion-blur helps, but if you look straight down from where you are standing, youll see how bad the texture work actually is.

Story- 7/10. I played Halo 1, and thought the story was superb. I couldnt even bring myself to finish Halo 2 so maybe Im missing something, but I just dont see why this deserves anything higher than an 7. Sure its Master Cheif killing some bad guys, always good stuff, but the cut-scenes can be downright corny, and in my onpinion, way to long. In the begining of the game, you are forced to sit threw a 5 minute cut-scene, and a tutorial of how to use the controls. Its friggin Halo- I just wanna shoot some stuff. Maybe that sounds a bit like I have ADD, but I buy other games for a good, in-depth story. I buy Halo to shoot things.

Campaign- 5/10. Give me a break. The campaign is the most predictable thing I have ever done. Like the other reviews said- fight your way to a destination, then fight your way back. Not to mention how terrible the A.I. is for the enemies and the guys that back you up. A word of advise- dont EVER let your soldiers drive a warthog.

Forge/Theater- 9/10. I was quite pleased with both the forge and the theater in Halo 3. Both new features for Halo, or any FPS for that matter. I would love to see both of these in more FPSs, and I think that Halo set a new standard for the industry in this regard.

Gameplay- 9/10. I cant remember any other game that the controls felt so seemless. Ive had nearly no problems with them. There is only a few knocks on the gameplay, but they are easily forgiven. My biggest problem with the gameplay is the cover system, or lack there of. In Gears of War, and now GTA, the cover system is terrific, granted they are both 3rd person games, but it seems as though Halo could have done something more than the simple ability to crouch. Another problem I found, and maybe this is just something that bothers me personally, is the invisible barriers the game has set up. When climbing a hill, you are often stopped by seemingly nothing. Again, maybe this is just a problem for me.

Multiplayer- 10/10. This is the best multiplayer on the market. There is almost limitless tweaking to be done, and game modes to play. Not to mention, that the matchmaking system is head-and-shoulders above any other matchmaking system. Overall, I dont see any ways the multiplayer could have been improved on. With Xbox Live, Forge, and Theater, its as close to perfection as youll see.

Halo was indeed doomed before it was even released. Its a bit like Christmas. When you were a kid you would set the bar so high for Christmas that it would be impossible for the actually day to be as good as you imagined(had to throw in at least one bad analogy, hehe). And though this game definitely doesnt live up to the hype, it is still a very fun game, if you have Xbox Live. Im going to give it an 8.3/10, a very respectable rating.
Overall, its a pretty good game. worth buying     On: 2008-04-30

Halo 3 is a good game mostly for the multiplayer. The campaign was a major dispointment because it was too fast, sure you can go back to get the skulls, some acheivements, but the campaign is really only to do to get it over with. As for the Multiplayer, its really good. you can play a lot of games including team slayer, team doubles, oddball, infection, etc. You can talk to ohther people through the headset and it is one hell of an experience. The same goes for Custom Games, you can play with your friends online on maps that dont have to be on matchmaking and you can invite whoever you want. Forge was a cool addition because you can edit your maps into anything you want and place the weapons and objects wherever you want! And on Theater, you can watch back you fights, take pictures of amazing kills or something amusing, and record clips of anything! Overall, i can play Halo 3 for a long time and its something worth having.
Meh     On: 2008-04-30

I guess I dont see the big deal about Halo. The story is lame, the graphics are mediocre... I bought this game because a friend is obsessed with it but I regret buying it.
Its great     On: 2008-04-23

This game has and continues to provide hours of entertainment for friends, family and I. I wish they could have done better with the graphics though.
Awesome game     On: 2008-04-18

Great shooter in the Halo series, better yet the best Halo to date. Xbox 360s performance really shows through here, I bet this would be choppy as hell on a PS3 espessially the multiplayer.
Yes the hype is true!     On: 2008-04-17

I dont really know what else to say about Halo 3 that you didnt hear 6 months before it was released. Yes, it is an awesome game. Yes, it finishes a great story. Yes, the game play is phenominal. Yes, the graphics kick butt. Yes, the multiplayer is insane. Yes...yes...yes...just buy it already. Seriously, it is an awesome game and a must own for the 360. My only complaint was that it was too easy. Even on "Legendary" difficulty I found "Realistic" on Rainbow Six: Vegas and Hardcore/Insane on Gears of War much more challenging. Your results may vary, but thats just my opinion.
Oooh, Halo 3 That! Review News.     On: 2008-04-17

Halo is an incredible franchise, but it does lack somewhat in the aspect of humor. There are funny moments, but not a single mention of Chinese kids, bees having heart attacks, or Twiggys dance club. Karl Pilkington, please come back to podcasting.
Halo 2 > Halo 3     On: 2008-04-17

This was one game I couldnt wait to play. But as I was overseas during the release, I was away from my 360 for an extended period of time, and didnt come to own this game until well after the initial hype had gone down. By the time I finally played it, I approached it with a bit less enthusiasm, and more of a perfunctory attitude.

Perhaps the game just did not live up to the seemingly astronomical expectations, but I definitely did not have as much fun playing this game as I did with Halo 2. Everything about this game: the story, the level design, the cinematics, the enemy design, the dialogue, the multiplayer... all lack the level of inspiration that Bungie has been famous for. And while I find the graphics quite good, others have criticized its lack of "Next-Gen-ness". All in all, Id have to say that this third and final installment is a disappointment, mainly by the nosebleed-high standard that the series has set for itself.

With that being said, Im still playing it now, a couple months after purchase, but the mileage certainly wont be quite the same as the last trip out.
Great Game But.....     On: 2008-04-16

Ill first start off with the graphics. I wouldnt call the graphics in this game great, they are good but not great. If youre buying this game thinking youre going to be blown away by the graphics, than you will probably be disappointed. As well all know graphics dont necessarily make a game enjoyable, so its not a big deal that the graphics in this game are not top notch.

The campaign is not too long, but also not too short, it should take the average gamer on normal about 6-9 hours to complete. I thought the campaign was better than Halo 2s, but not better than Halo 1.

The online is fun and up there with the best online games, but I think it is a bit of a disappointment compared to Halo 2. There are only a few really good maps imo and the others are all average. I havent downloaded the new maps that just came out yet, but I might give them a try. Other than I dont know, I just dont find it as fun and addicting as Halo 2 online, but its still a great game and must have for anyone with the 360.
Master Chief enters the next gen     On: 2008-04-15

Halo 3 puts you back in the shoes of Master Chief as he attempts to foil the Covenants plan to destroy earth by firing the Halo weapons. However he isnt alone as the Elites and the Arbiter (formerly of the Covenant) have joined forces with the humans to help. Anyway, the story gets a little crazy & confusing with the introduction of Guilty Spark (Halo 1), the Flood coming back (H1 & H2), some talking venus flytrap looking thing (which I assume is the leader of the Flood), the death of both Miranda Keyes and Sgt. Johnson, and more. Meh, oh well.

Theres almost nothing different between this game and its predecessors. You still run around shooting various weapons which include shotguns, sniper rifles, plasma rifles, handgun, needlers, the assault rifles, and more, while killing the Covenant forces. You will still drive vehicles like the Ghost and Warthog with your fellow marines. The only difference is that you can rip turrets out of the ground, there are some new weapons like the Brute spiker or the gravity hammer, new vehicles like the Hornet (human version of the Banshee flying vehicle) or the Brute chopper, new grenades called the Stick Grenades and Napalm, and the Elites fight side by side with you. Also you get these things called "equipment" which are kind of like new grenades but they work differently. There are a bunch of different kinds like the Bubble Shield (which creates this big shield around you and anyone in it and you cnat shoot out of it but you cant be shot at from the outside), the Gravity Lift which is exactly how it sounds, the power drain & regain which either drains your shields or recharges them, and others. However, theres no change in fighting style or anything... you just run, shoot, take cover, pop out and finish the job.

The multi-player is, where I assume, Bungie took the most time. Like Halo 2, you can party up with people, create emblems to distinguish you from other people, play different game types like capture the flag or juggernaut, and more. Unlike Halo 2 however, and a nice little addition I may add, is the ability to customize your character - and I dont mean just going from a Spartan to an Elite. You can actually choose different armor types and head types, but you have to meet certain criteria to unlock them. However, the multi-player is a bit bland at times.. I mean all you have to do is empty a clip from the MA5B assault rifle as you run up to them, and if your close enough, just punch them and they die. Meh.

Theres this new "Forge" feature where you can move objects within a level but I think that its sort of lame so Im not gonna bother with it. Also, you can watch recent matches and campaign tries in the new theater mode which is cool.

There are a few flaws in the title. For one, in multi-player you can be clearly kicking the stuffing out of an opponent only to have him melee you twice and you die. On that same subject, there seems to be a bit of lag in response times from when you hit a button to what happens on screen - the best example of this is if Im hitting B to melee someone, and they melee me first because my character doesnt do anything. Secondly, like I mentioned, the story gets kind of confusing. Thirdly.... the flood... talk!!!!!!!!!! BOOO!!!!! Fourth, the AI cant drive for anything. Finally, the ending.

The ending was dumb. Basically you outrun this thing thats blowing up while fighting the Flood and Sentinals (sound familiar like...say.. Halo 1s ending?). Chief and the Arbiter hop into a Pelican and start flying away. While inside, Chief is braced with his back against some sort of object with the doors to the Pelican open showing nothing but space. Cortana says "Chief, what if we dont make it? Its been an honor serving with you." Chief responds, "Dont worry, well make it." (Halo 2s trailer anyone?) Anyway, the thing explodes enveloping the screen with white. Next thing you know there are Marines standing at attention listening to a ceremony by the Admiral or whatever about heroes and how everyone who died meant something to the cause... behind the Admiral is a tail end of a Pelican with pictures and stuff on it.. and 117 carved into it. This signifies Master Chief is dead basically. Anyway, the Arbiter comes out of nowhere and he & the Admiral talk while the camera zooms into the "117". Then a paragraph on how Bungie thanks all its supporters and fans is shown and the credits roll. Okay.. lame.

Overall, Halo 3 is fun but theres nothing really seperating it from its predecessors... in fact, it actually steals bits and pieces from them instead of bringing new ideas to the table. Although the game is exciting at times, and the multiplayer is kind of cool I will only give it 8.0 Spartans out 10.

Oh and playing co-op is always fun :)
People shouldn't say...     On: 2008-04-09

that Halo 3 is a terrible game or a piece of garbage if they suck @$$ at playing it. If you suck at the game, dont say its terrible, just come out and say youre terrible at playing it. And if you say that people are suckers for buying the game after listening to all the hype, then youre a sucker too because you "fell" for it too. People who cant play video games and say that the games themselves suck, just shut the hell up.
Not all its hyped up to be!     On: 2008-04-09

to be blunt, this game sucks balls! The weapons are awful and the graphics are ok. The worst part of the game is you cant run, and the sights on the guns lack any control! The campain was fun for the first few hours, after that its all the same and gets boring fast. If you want a good game, go with call of duty 4! I havnt put it down since i got it.
fun, fast faced, customizable     On: 2008-04-09

This is a fun game. Especially at LAN parties. The customizable game types and maps is really fun. And the gameplay has been improved from the last game.
Not so original, but perfectly executed     On: 2008-04-08

Halo 3 is not the most original game ever. The story is so-so and predictable. Many of the multiplayer options have been seen before (Golden eye, Perfect Dark N64). But what this game lacks in originallity it makes up for big time in execution. Multiplayer (Matchmaking) is well done and "fair". You almost always play versus a team of comparable ability (how well you play is another story...). The theater mode and file sharing modes let you share favorite real moments and pictures. Forge lets you design your own game and entertain yourself at the same time (the awesome variant "Grif Ball" was invented and created out of the Forge mode). This game will be noted in history for having the complete campain and multiplayer platform and will long be the standard bearer for future games. In short, I dont think this game does anything original nor is it perfectly executed, but wins the all-around with very high marks. For example, GOW I find to be much more playable in multiplayer mode (fun) but the GOW matchmaking is lacking compared to Halo 3 which detracts from the experience.
What took so long...Finally a game I beat all by myself!     On: 2008-04-02

As soon as I inserted this game into my hungry Xbox 360 it was as they say...its on. My fondest memory is being behind firing missiles at that scarab for the first time and blowing a hole in it. I salivated as I slay many foe with my guns blazing. The story kept me in my seat for hours the sheer power of this game grips me. I beat this game in a matter of days and enjoyed the effort I put forth to get to the heartbreaking final moment. My heart felt heavy and I nearly shed a tear. I wanna thank the creators for this chance to be a part of history. Buy this game and take my word for it you wont regret it. Fanatic or not be a part of history.
Halo 3 ended the series with a bang!     On: 2008-04-01

Halo 3 is one of the best games the Xbox 360 has to offer. This game is what people have been waiting for for 3 years. Did Bungie hit the bulls eye in Halo 3? Most definitely.
Halo 3 is the rave on Xbox Live; it is one of the most played game next to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Both games rival in superiority, that one must wonder how these two games have gained praise and fame.
Halo 3 is the last entry in the Halo video game series. The first Halo came out on Xbox in 2001, and its success spawned Halo 2, which later spawned Halo 3.
The multiplayer in Halo 3 is really fun. You can have up to 16 players on a map. You are allowed to customize your characters appearance, colors, and symbols based on your liking and personality. There are about 15 maps in the game, and more downloadable maps on the way. Since there are so many people playing the game, youll meet a large variety of people, most of them friendly and supportive.
There is a film save feature, which allows you to see everything that happened during a multiplayer match or campaign from different perspectives. You can even save clips or pictures to show other people.
Another one of the games highlights is forge-the map editor. What makes this fun is that you can battle your friends while you edit the map. This lets you buy a weapon, vehicle, equipment, or map prop, which you can carry around. Each map has a budget, so you have a limit on how much you can buy.
The storyline is short but ended the series really well. There are 9 levels in the campaign, where you battle different kinds of aliens in vehicles and on foot with other marines. You basically play as super soldier Master Chief who is fighting the Covenant (the aliens) for humanitys survival. The cooperative mode lets you play with 3 other friends, all of them different characters. Easter eggs like skulls and hidden characters add some pizzazz to the game.
You may know that there is an equal number of people who love Halo 3 and hate it. If you like Sci-fi and/or shooter games, try it out first. I am almost sure if you play this game on harder difficulty levels and play ranked multiplayer matches, youd be addicted to this for a good portion of 2 years.
As a total package, Halo 3 is worth the 60 dollars. The limited and Legendary edition is for die hard Halo fans and those who want to play the game but also learn more about it.
Halo 3 disappoints and impresses others, but almost everything from books to movies are like that. If you know the whole Halo story, this is the best out of all of them, even the novels. The ending is awesome but somewhat saddening, too. This is the end of a great story. This is Halo 3.

What order?     On: 2008-03-26

I ordered this item on Feb. 17, 2008 and it is now March 27 and have yet to recieve it. This is the first time I have waited this long, still I am not happy. I am sure we will love this game once we are able to play it.
Two player co-op split screen is AWESOME!     On: 2008-03-26

I have never liked Halo 1 or 2. Figured I would give this a shot, and the experience is incredible. Co-op mode is so much fun. There are so many things two people can do as far as having one person drive the other shoot in the same vehicle. There are a variety of different vehicles to choose from as well. You can flank different enemies, its not just two people shooting at the same thing. I found it to be long too, two 5 hours sessions and were only about half through. We didnt rush through it though. Seems a lot less juvenile also. One gripe, when you play co-op mode the screen reverts to a 4:3 aspect ratio and you have vertical bars on each side of the screen. I havent played many split screen games, but I know this isnt common. I recommend this game.
ehh...its ok     On: 2008-03-23

The story mode was pretty cool, but way to short. Took me 3 hours on normal to beat it. The 4 player coop was fun, but you have to put a party together yourself, which is just stupid. The multiplayer was cool. Way to many glitches though. Save 60 dollars and wait for the price to come down, or, at least, buy it used and save a few bucks. Not worth 60. Not even close. Have a good one.
garbage     On: 2008-03-22

The whole Halo series is trash. And you know what, i dont care what comments or ratings you give me, cuz u know what, i dont give a f@#$!!!! Halo is a trashy nerd game for losers. Inter-galactic warriors UNITE!! dum#$$es
best game ever!!     On: 2008-03-20

well the title says it all.... come on cod4 is great but halo still rules the 360 world...to compaire this halo with cod4 i can jump higher turn around faster.... the guns are better... u can NOT shoot through walls .. which is stupid.... this is the best game out ... u CAN NOT BEAT THE REALNESS OF THIS GAME

A very worthy way to finish the figh     On: 2008-03-18

I have been waiting for Halo 3 since the day Halo 2 came out. I have listened to every Bungie Podcast, and read every Bungie weekly update. That being said, my hype for this game was way higher than that of the average user. Based on what Id seen in the beta and read/heard from Bungie, I knew the game was going to rock. I just didnt know how much it was going to rock. I will say it right now: Halo 3 is the best game that Ive ever played on any console or computer. Period. And Ive played a LOT of games. From the epic story to the amazingly in depth multiplayer, the game delivers extremely well on all fronts. I have no doubt that every gamer (or even somebody whos not a huge gamer) will love Halo 3. Due to the complexity of the game, this review consists of two main sections (Multiplayer and Campaign), each of which is broken down into subdivisions.

Campaign

--Story: 10/10--

If youve played other Halo games, then you basically know what the story in Halo 3 will be like. I cant really say too much about the story without spoiling anything, however the story starts out strong right where Halo 2 left off, and goes on strong. Bungie learned from their mistakes from Halo 2, and the story takes place only on Earth. The game does use an excessive amount of cut scenes, however they use the same engine as the game, so it never really feels like you are out of the game at all. Note: Be sure that you stick around to watch the credits, because there is more to come afterwards :)

--Graphics: 9/10--

The graphics in Halo 3s campaign are some of the best graphics Ive ever seen on the 360. When you consider the fact that you can play 2-player co-op on one system with the same graphics and framerate, it is really amazing. The lighting and particle effects in the game are probably the best on any console game Ive ever seen. Overall, the graphics are probably slightly worse than Gears of War or BioShock, but again, considering what this game does, the graphics are absolutely amazing. Loading takes place only in between levels, but the loading screen looks so amazing, you will probably wish you saw it more often.

--Sound: 7/10--

If youve watched the E3 2006 trailer for Halo 3, youve heard the music in Halo 3. Yes, the music is amazing, but Bungie chose to repeat the same song over and over and over again. The song always manages to fit whats going on the screen, but with Bungies large budget, Id have thought they could do better. As for the games sound effects, they are absolutely amazing. Each gun has its own set of sounds, and they sound differently when they are far away or in a small area. The characters make some hilarious noises when they die, and the voice acting in the game cant be beat. Bungie has gone to great efforts to ensure that the voice acting is interesting, and they have really succeeded. Other than the poor variety of music the sound in Halo 3 is absolutely amazing.

--Gameplay: 10/10--

Gameplay is where Halo 3 shines the most. The controls have been perfected for the Xbox 360 controller. They may take some time to get used to, however once you do, you will see that the changes are amazing. Of course, if you refuse to change, Bungie does offer a Halo 2 control scheme option that you can choose. Some have complained that Halo 3 is too much like Halo 2, but that couldnt be further from the truth. There is such a large variety of new weapons, and characters that it feels like you are playing a completely brand new game, not a copy of Halo 2 like some have claimed.

--Online Co-op Play: 10/10--

It was only a few weeks before release that Bungie finally announced what everybody had been waiting to hear: 4 player campaign cooperative play over Xbox Live. Why did Bungie wait so long to reveal this feature? They needed to be sure it worked perfectly before they promised it to gamers. Let me tell you, thanks to co-op play with meta scoring (gives you a score based on your in-game performance), the Halo 3 campaign is going to be replayed, and replayed, and replayed over and over again for tons of years to come. To start a co-op game you simple choose campaign from the main menu, and then invite your friends. You can play with 3 people online, or you and a guest can play with 2 others online. Either way, you are ensured a great experience. During my play with co-op, it has worke
