Skate introduces a new way to perform tricks in the game. Unlike most other skateboarding games, where a direction is held and a button is pressed, players will need to use thumbsticks on the controller and move them in set directions. For example, to perform an ollie, the player would hold down the thumbstick, making the person in the game crouch down on the skateboard. After that, the player would need to "flick" the thumbstick up quickly, thus putting the skateboarder in the air. Most aerial tricks are performed using the right thumbstick on the controller. Different factors will affect each trick. For example, if the player flicks the thumbstick up faster for the ollie, the skater will go up higher.
